Bad Credit Cards

In today's economy, several folks are looking for bad credit card solutions and have very poor credit or no credit history. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get unsecured credit cards when you don't have good credit history, especially when banks and credit card companies are weary of lending money to even those with good credit. Those losing hope may find a good credit card to use in today's economy; however, these unsecured bad credit cards are hard to find.

The Best Bad Credit Card is a Secured Credit Card

The solution for those looking for a bad credit card is a secured credit card. It's actually a secured credit line, whereby an account holder deposits money into a creditor's account and is allowed to spend an amount in the range of 50% to 100% of the value of the original deposit. In some special cases you can find creditors that will accept a secured credit line with a deposit as low as 10% of the total credit line; however, those are harder to find.

The main advantage of using a secured credit card is that the creditor typically reports to the credit bureaus on a regular basis. Therefore by using the secured credit card you are building or rebuilding credit so that in the future you will qualify unsecured credit cards.

Although a secured credit card may be a good solution for those looking for a bad credit card, users must be aware that missing one or two payments will not automatically be debited from the secured balance. Just like any unsecured credit card, one or two missed payments will incur a penalty and an interest rate will be applied. For example, a credit card secured 100% by funds in the creditor’s account, could potentially have a higher balance than the amount used to secure the card.

Beware of Prepaid Credit Cards as a Bad Credit Card Solution

Users should be aware that a prepaid credit card is not a good solution as a bad credit card. Aa prepaid credit card is not a credit card and no credit is offered by the issuer. If you have bad credit or no credit, you really need to build a credit history. A prepaid credit card is not going to help you in the long term, because it has no credit use to be reported to the credit bureaus.

A common problem with those looking for a bad credit card is that they are looking to borrow more unsecured credit than what they qualify for. In this case, a person with poor credit or no credit history might find an unsecured credit card to use, however; the interest rate associated with the card will most likely be extraordinarily high. A high interest credit card, if used incorrectly, has the potential to get the consumer into repayment struggles and in the end, worsen their credit history.

If you’re looking for a bad credit card, you would be further ahead getting a secured credit card and rebuilding credit history overtime. In the future, you can apply for a low interest unsecured credit card, when your credit history is better.
