Scoring

A badminton match consists of 3 games and the winner is the team/player who wins the most games. In a doubles game the first team to score 15 points wins the game. In a singles game the player to score 11 points wins the game

In a doubles game both teams may get 14 (10 in a singles game). When this happens the team who first got 14 can choose to continue the game to 15 (11) or choose to continue the game to 17 points (13 ina singles game.

The winning team/player begins serving on the next game.

Game faults:

If the shuttle:

  • lands outside the boundaries of the court (on the line is not considered out of bounds)
  • passes through the net (yeah ... it is possible)
  • passes under the net
  • is hit twice by the same player or once by each player on the team
  • gets caught in the player's racquet (yip also know to happen) and then released by the player
  • gets caught in the net
  • touches the ceiling or walls
  • touches the player or the clothes of the player

If the player:

  • strikes the shuttle on the opponents court
  • touches the net or its support with their person, clothes or racket
  • invades the opponent's court with their person or racket and hence distracting or obstructing them

Badminton Rules for a singles game

The badminton rules are similar to doubles except that there is no alternately between serves between the team.
