Today , I made a discovery. Actually, I re-discovered a truism that I already knew but, for a moment, forgot to follow. Simply put. be were you are, also known as pay attention. There are times when your focus wanders off of what you are doing that is often when something goes wrong, something that could have been prevented if you stayed in the moment.

This day was busy, it has slowed down and there is now time to reflect on all that took palce. This morning I had to run a number of errands; nothing unusual about that but my wife has a cold so there were a few extra chores to do. No problem you do what needs doing.

On my second round of chores, I stopped by the video rental store to pick up the final six episodes of year one of 24. We do not get any form of TV service but now and then rent TV programs on DVD, just to see what others were talking about. So over the past five days we have been watching year one of 24. No big deal, I mean it is okay but nothing special. However, it was good enough to want to see how the season ended.

I put the three DVDs in my black canvas shoulder bag and headed to Sobey’s a major Atlantic grocery chain.

I can buy items there not available in the much smaller local shop.

The first thing to do when entering the store is to get a wet anti-viral towellette  to rub down the  cart handle. The second things I do is put my bag over the handle so I get easily reach the reusable bags when checking out.

Thirty minutes later I am outside waiting for the can, bags too heavy to carry home. There is a great big red pickup truck blocking the taxi stop. I am annoyed by this and having to walk around him to get to cab. This is what diverted my attention.

Almost home I realize my bag is not with me, so e go back; This will cost more but what else is there to do.

Back at Sobey’s the cart is where I left it but no bag. I go in and head to desk. Finally catching the attention of a staff pre-occupied with itself, I explain what I am looking for, an indifferent response tells me they do not have it. So it is gone then.

I hope the person who took the bag enjoys the episodes of 24 and can use  reading glasses and first aid kit.

I know I erred by leaving the bag behind and letting my attention get distracted, however, taking the bag just because you can is simply wrong.
