I know the economy is in the dumps and now more then ever we all feel the crunch of economic and personal depression. Last year, I noticed there were very little decorations and good will cheer. I realize that it is a bad time for most including myself. However, I would like children now to see the Christmas that we wish to remember. Not that the holiday was truly as happy as I think of it but, I would love it to be exactly the white Christmas with the joy that Jimmy Stuart, Bing Crosby, and every old time tradition that we relate with the holidays as a corner stone for the next generation. I choose to remember things the way I wanted them to be. I had a lot of nice Christmas moments at my Grandparents house. I would not trade those moments for anything. Those family oriented and kind gestures of love are very precious to me. Sometimes I think that we lose track of the truly important factors in life that shape the image that we portray to those that are most impressionable. This is a special time of year, one of the only times of year that we can reach out to people around us and not be accused of patronizing. It is not hard to put your best foot forward, It won't hurt...... Just do it! You will be amazed at the response you will receive from just a friendly HELLO, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, or whatever suits your fancy. NO BAH HUM BUG!! Just Give some Love.

Amber, I have the same memories of christmas at my grandparents, on both sides, playing, fighting with cousins, running around outside in the cold, in the dark, heaven forbid the kids play outside now! But there are still moments now of the Christmas spirit, like Mighty Mom said, we just have to look, or listen for that ring of the bell.

Hi Amber, I totally agree with your attitude. Love is the best gift we can give -- and it's FREE. This year is rather a downer for a number of reasons. The economy is bad and that does impact people. But it doesn't have to impact holiday spirit. I was so happy to hear the familiar ring, ring of the Salvation Army person at the mall today. This particular representative was even in a wheelchair and it was foggy and cold (for Sacramento -- in the 50s) outside. I was really feeling out of it but seeing him made me realize that the holidays are here no matter what's going on in MY life (reminds me of your other hub about the Waaaambulance -- good one!).
Merry Christmas and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you! Mighty Mom
