Bail bondsmen (a.k.a. bounty hunters) earn their money in a hard way. Their biggest customer is also their most dangerous obstacle - a criminal. Their job is simple but yet very dangerous and unpredictable. Various terminologies are used to define the profession of a bail bondsman and none of these names are quite as effective as bail enforcement agents because it sums up the job description. The job can be abstractly interpreted as a loan facility of those who are said to have been caught on the wrong side of the law. It may sound like a normal office job but there are perks that come with the job. Naturally, most criminals consider themselves vigilantes and they often violate the penal code of jurisdiction and leave town. The fugitives are responsible for the action aspect of the job and they often never disappoint. Other than catching fugitives, the job is a very good paying one with flexible office hours and the power of attorney.

A day in the life of a bondsman depends on the number of criminals given bail while awaiting trial. If there has been a fugitive reported, the bondsman can be deputized to make an arrest. If their "customer" runs away, they don't get paid. Therefore, losing a criminal is not an option.

Criminals can be very desperate people who will do just about anything to escape the grip of the bondsman. Thus the smell of danger is apparent when hunting down a fugitive. The limitations stated by the courts give the bail bondsman an even greater job than before. The bondsman has a limited amount of force that they are supposed to use and they cannot employ the use of a gun. Ergo the possibility of getting injured during the job is high. In addition, almost all the cases result in a defendant trying to skip bail. An alarming recently published headliner shook the nation by exposing that a total number of 3,273 criminals had jumped bail. This has brought about a controversial debate on the efficiency of the justice system.

Thinking Before Acting

The question that arises from the statistics mentioned above is what is the best form of self defense in situations that require combat? The first step is to think rationally and to maintain your calm. It is most likely that in fight situations the only form of control that the body has comes from using muscle first and the brain later. Do not try to be Superman and save the day; instead make a rational decision. It is even better to have a partner at your side; a famous example of teamwork is Starsky and Hutch. In order to enhance your combat technique and style, go for self-defense classes or martial arts - sometimes the weapon you can have is your body. As much as the job may be a clip from Miami Vice, refrain from thinking that the whole incident is unreal; always keep a level head. Taking a deep breath can also help to rid the body of shock. Practice can also help prepare for real-life situations.

Go Go Gadgets

Sometimes the situation calls for additional help and there are some effective yet non-lethal weapons that can help to restrain the alleged criminal. Stun tasers and batons contain the punch needed. These handy tools can save lives and the advantage of having one is that they are light and can even be the size of your palm. A clever camouflage is the cell phone stun gun which helps fight the fugitive incognito. Alternatively, tools that are visible can intimidate the defendant into succumbing to the law. Weapons like pepper spray and personal alarms can come in handy when you are caught in a situation that requires backup from your partner.

Don't Tase Me Man

The power of self-defense tools such as the TASER X26C is in the ability of the stun effecter to store a large amount of voltage. When in use, the amount of energy is transferred to the victim and they become immobilized for some few, yet essential, minutes. The sudden jolt of energy disrupts the impulses sent to the attacker's brain and this causes involuntary muscle movement and momentary disorientation.

The job of a bail bondsman may have some risks but they are worth taking - life always has risks, it is a part of life. However, there are numerous ways to keep you safe and protected while on the job. Take advantage of the technology and make your life easier with a TASER.
