I'm often asked how to make Banana Bread as it is one of my favorite recipes. Nothing is easier or more tasty than freshly baked Banana Bread!

Some recipes for Banana Bread include nuts, chocoloate or even peanut butter. Many also include fruits like raisins, dates or blueberries. 

I would recommend you start with a plain Banana Bread recipe at first and try other recipes if you like the basic Banana Bread.

Banana bread is known as a quick bread that does not use yeast as a raising agent.

Banana Bread contains mashed or chopped banana. It is usually sweet and moist.

Banana Bread recipes will normally contain eggs, although there are some Vegan recipes for Banana Bread which contain no egg or egg substitute.

In most Banana Bread recipes egg is the only non vegan ingredient used.


The World's Best Banana Bread Recipe

This is probably the best Banana Bread recipe ever! It produces a simple yet delicious Banana Bread!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups of all purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup softened margarine
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups mashed up banana

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees / 175 degrees C. Then grease and flour a 9" × 5" loaf pan.
  2. Cream together the margarine and sugar until smooth. Beat the eggs into the mixture and then add the bananas. Add the flour and baking soda and stir until combined.
  3. Pour the mixture into the prepared loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees F / 175 degrees C for around 1 hour. When ready a toothpick should come out clean. Remove from the loaf pan and let cool for 10 minutes.

 


The History Of Banana Bread

The exact origin of Banana Bread is unknown, but it is believed that it originated somewhere in America.

Banana Bread become really popular when baking soda and baking powder became widely available during the 1930s. It became a standard feature of American cookbook of the time appearing in Pillsbury's Balanced Recipes cookbook in 1933.

During the home baking revival of the 1960's the simplicity of the Banana Bread recipe lead to an explosion in it's popularity.

Many cookbooks in the 1960's started to add ingredients like nuts and fruits as a variation on the standard recipe.
