Halloween suppliers say sales of masks of presidential candidates have predicted the winner in the past several campaigns.

In the past three elections, nationwide sales of U.S. Presidential candidate masks revealed the winner days before general election results were in:

2004 Spirit Halloween Presidential Index

John Kerry 35%

George W. Bush 65% *

2000 Spirit Halloween Presidential Index

George W. Bush 57% *

Al Gore 43%

1996 Spirit Halloween Presidential Index

Bill Clinton 71% *

Bob Dole 29%

The mask factor is good news for Obama so far. After the first month of Halloween 2008 Barack Obama and John McCain mask sales (August 30-October. The "Presidential Index" shows Obama is leading at 67%, while McCain has 33%. There iis still a month until election day so anything can happen during that time.

The real question is whether people are wearing the costume or mask in support of the candidate or spoofing the candidate. With the surprise introduction of Sarah Palin onto the election scene this year, there has been a flurry of activity both in support of her and making fun of her. Her supporters proudly wear a Palin costume, perhaps carrying a flag or some other patriotic pin. Her detractors add a gun or some other accessory that spoofs the Vice-Presidential candidate.

Obama supporters are grabbing the Obama mask. They really don't need much else to complete the look since any suit would pretty much do the trick of completing the costume. The same holds for McCain supporters - a mask put together with a business suit completes the candiate costume.

Most important, regardless of which candidate you support, remember to Get Out and Vote.

Voting is a privilege in our society. Nothing is more important than casting your vote on election day. Remember, the election was decided in 2004 but an extremely small margin - every vote does make a difference.

When you go to vote, be sure you talk to your children about the process. Raise them to know how important it is to cast your vote in every election. Teach them about the power of the democratic process and also about its responsibilities.

Barack Obama Adult Masks

Is this the face of our next president? This realistic over-the-head mask is made of soft vinyl and showcases the democratic hopeful's facial features and signature hairstyle. Add a dress suit and proudly represent your support of Barack Obama. I would add a little flag pin on the lapel to add a patriotic touch.
