>> Oslo, Norway -- The Nobel Prize Committee has awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize to President Barack Hussein Obama of the United States Of America. President Obama Plans to attend the ceremony and accept the prize in person.
Wow, can you say controversial? President Obama awarded the Nobel Peace Prize after only 9 months in office, a junior Senator before that, and a lawyer prior to his senate duties.
As Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the USA, he his prosecuting two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. (Don't forget about anti-terrorism operations worldwide!) How "peaceful" is that?
As a President who has provided a majority of plans but not a majority of action, are Obama's accomplishments worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize?

Weighing In On Obama's Peace Prize
There's no doubt that President Obama has sought to reach out to the rest of the world and shake hands. He has started a dialogue with Iran as well as North Korea and the Taliban in Afghanistan.
What has this accomplished?
With each outstretched hand, it would seem that President Obama has received a slap in the face for his trouble. I see the diplomacy attempts, but not diplomacy accomplishments. This is not a subtle difference.
Iran wants nuclear capability.
North Korea wants nuclear capability.
The Taliban doesn't want to talk.
And talk is about all that I have witnessed in the first month's of Obama's presidency. It seems as if the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded based on this talk of what could be, rather than actions and accomplishments that have firmly taken place.
Just think, Jimmy Carter didn't receive his Nobel Peace Prize until AFTER he'd been President of the USA and AFTER 20+ years of international diplomacy and peace operations.
I don't get it.

I think that there are more deserving people out there. I agree with you that there aren't many accomplishments. As one news source put it, his winning the Nobel peace prize is like an actor winning an Oscar before he's acted in the movie.
Thanks for your comment "breakfastpop". Most appreciated!
Pageantgirl31413, you have me a chuckle with the actor/oscar thing. Here's a list of others who've won the NPP. http://nobelprizes.com/nobel/peace/peace.html
I'll have to add it to my hub. Notice that Le Duc Tho - 1973 declined the prize. Interesting, no?!
Hub #5 about this.... seems to have touched a chord... people are either praising it or bashing it... doesn't seem to be much middle ground.
@MikeNV - so are you a middle ground guy on Barack's peace prize? Popular topics always have multiple hubs.
I have mixed feelings. I think his vision is extraordinary, his presidential inheritance, abysmal. I am an Obama supporter yet feel the prize was awarded prematurely.
Give the man some credit.

I think choosing President Obama is ludicrous. Apparently, you can win the Nobel for giving compelling speeches using a teleprompter. Nice hub!
