From 'The Audacity of Hope' by Barack Hussein Obama
The following is a quote from Barack Hussein Obama's book titled 'The Audacity of Hope':
'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'
What do you think he meant by this statement?
Does he mean 'side with' and/or 'defend' when he says 'stand'?
What does he mean by 'political winds shift in an ugly direction'?
I'm just asking.
From 'Dreams From My Father' By Barack Hussein Obama
The following are several quotes taken from the book by Barack Hussein Obama titled 'Dreams From My Father':
'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'
Doesn't his emphasis on his black heritage ingratiate him to the black populace? Why wouldn't he embrace both races and promote and emulate the good qualities of each race?
'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'
So, he found comfort in nursing or encouraging a sense of grievance and animosity against his mother's race? In my opinion, this is a generalized statement and therefore leans more towards racism against whites than any other comment he has made.
'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.'
Ok, so he is basically saying that he was wary or mistrusting of this man because he was confident and white?
'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.'
This is the definition of 'radical' in my opinion.
'I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa, that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself: the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.'
If anyone other than the current President of the United States had said these things, wouldn't they have been deemed a 'racist'. In fact if we substituted 'black' for 'white' or 'christian' for 'muslim' wouldn't there be an uproar from the Dems and Liberals?
I'm just asking.

What is everyone to make of this? If these quotes really came from his book, then why isn't there an uproar? Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
I don't get why these quotes would be problemmatic. Here is a biracial man. His books express the development of his identification as a BLACK MAN rather than as a WHITE MAN. It's like a former boyfriend of mine, 1/2 German, 1/2 Irish. He searched his psyche for years trying to figure out which ethnicity was more "valid" for him. I can only imagine that when you are biracial you really do have to reconcile yourself with that and choose the identity you want to present to the world.
Call it playing the "race card" if you must. I think he made the only decision he could, given his obviously "African American" looks.
Got flagged as a 'duplicate' so had to go in and add some more non-quoted commentary.
Thanks Saw, Dohn and Mighty for chiming in!
Mighty Mom-one comment-Why does he have to be black or white? He is both. And more than that, his choosing to portray himself one way or the other is not the issue. His obvious dislike and mistrust of the 'whites' based on color is racism.
Why does he have to be black or white? That's a good question. The answer is that he had to be black because that's what he was labeled by the society in which he grew up. The rule in many college fraternities at that time was not to allow anyone with 1/8 Negro or Jewish ancestry to become members. Like MM, it strikes me that you like many others are looking for anything you can find to discredit the president. At least you aren't calling Obama a Nazi or worse like some are these days.
"The rule in many college fraternities at that time"
Ralph, that time was the 80's, he didn't grow up segregated! He is not a Nazi, but he dislikes Jews so maybe he is practicing to be a Nazi! Yes, he is a racist, we knew that from the Gates affair!
If Obama is such a Black elitist, why did he go out of his way to create the most diverse cabinet in history? Here's an excerpt from a USA Today article: "He has a majority-minority Cabinet," says Paul Light, an expert on presidential appointments at New York University. "In terms of white males, they're in the minority now." (Uh oh -- guess you folks will think that proves he's anti white!).
Bill Clinton, the last Democratic president, had five women and six minorities in a first Cabinet that he said "looks like America" — one more in each category than George W. Bush had. Obama has shattered those numbers:
• There will be seven women with Sebelius, led by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
• There are four African-Americans, including the first as attorney general, Eric Holder. There are three Asian-Americans and two Hispanics.
• Seven Cabinet members are in their 40s, eight in their 50s and six in their 60s. The youngest is Peter Orszag, director of the Office of Management and Budget, who just turned 40. The oldest is Eric Shinseki, 66, who heads the Department of Veterans Affairs.
If in his heart he believes in the superiority of anyone over anyone else (which is between him and God), his public actions belie that. He picked a Hispanic woman for Supreme Court Justice. Is that racist? Sexist?
No one said he was sexist, we said he was racist and he is! I heard the same charge against Bush and he appointed a Black Female to be Secretary of State, the first one I believe. Obama's cabinet only proves he is conscious of the fact the World is watching! I always get a kick out of those that think the White man is worried about losing their place of prominence, we are not worried about losing anything!
You must be a fan of the pathetic loser, Glenn Beck. He's about to be broomed from Fox because his advertisers are bailing on his show. Obama may well be the least racist person in Washington. He is a unifier. You are a divider.
While I appreciate all of the comments, I noticed no one has really answered my questions. Hmmph.
I do like Glenn Beck.
His partiality to one race over another is not between him and God when he is the President of the United States.
He wasn't 'labeled' black-he says in his quote above he chose it. He was labeled bi-racial which is what he is, he only promotes himself as black.
and I am not trying to discredit him, he is doing a good job of that himself.
RS to answer your question if a white man had said any of these things he would never have exited the State house where he was a Senator and probably been voted out!
Ralph I watch Beck occasionally not a great deal, he is winning his time slot everyday no advertisers are leaving. Just another liberal dream! I do not care if I am a divider, I have no interest in uniting with socialists! we are a divided Country and I am not going to change my morals and values to suit you and your ilk, you people divide on every issue and you have to own it now. Your boy is done in 31/2 years and thats a good thing!
Texan- I hope and pray you are right about the three and half years. Thanks for commenting!
The more thats found out about his political tactics the less he will be liked, this guy really is trying to takeover as much as he can before his first term is up so everything will be in place for incremental socialism. He is dangerous for this Country and our freedom and he will be gone, no worries!
Mr. Deeds- I do not approve comments with curse words. Keep it clean or take your comments elsewhere.
I sent email letters to most of the big named advertisers you say have withdrawn from the glenn beck show and received several responses back stating that that was an unsubstantiated rumor and that they had no intention of pulling their advertising from one of the highest rating shows on air. Some of them may infact pull their ads-but so what. Glenn Beck will stay on because he has high #'s and companies will advertise there because of that. If they choose not to, then it is their choice to loose that revenue generator. This has nothing to do with Barack Hussein Obama being a racist.
Was Ralph blowing his liberal head gasket and cussing? Ralph calm down things will be ok!
Which ones said they aren't pulling their ads? Calling the Texan the name I called him was nothing more than the truth. He denied that any advertisers have canceled, and I supplied a list of cancellations from a couple of sources. If you have different information, let's see it, Tex and rs.
Once again, Glen Beck's advertisers have nothing to do with my hub. However I sent emails to directors of advertising and consumer affairs for Geico, Progressive and SC Johnson among others. The reply emails were deleted after several days in my inbox so alas, I have no proof of their response. Progressive stated that they had not purchased advertising for Glen Beck's show in the first place and several others said they had no immediate plans to remove advertising.
By the way-your source above is a blog. I wouldn't necessarily take it as fact.
Well, here's a link to the NY Times article that reported last week that a dozen companies have pulled their ads from Beck's show. Several others have since been reported to have done so.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/14/business/media/1
The Wall Street Journal carried a similar report.
This column by Leonard Pitts illustrates the game you're playing in this Hub
Glenn Beck's race-baiting hate speech promotes untruths that are as dangerous as they are despicable. Here's a sample:
"This president has exposed himself as a guy over and over and over again who has a deep-seated hatred for white people .... this guy is, I believe, a racist."
Even Wal-Mart admits Glenn Beck has gone off the deep end and has withdrawn its sponsorship from his FOX News Channel program. Why then is Verizon Wireless continuing to underwrite Glenn Beck?
Our partners at ColorofChange.org have run a successful campaign to get corporate sponsors to rethink their support of Glenn Beck. Wal-Mart, Geico and Best Buy have already pulled their advertising dollars from the show. Why hasn't Verizon Wireless?
[From Credo email.]
Mr. Deeds- I appreciate your providing a more reliable source such as the New York Post, however I do not count colorofchange.org as one I would consider a reliable source because they are promoting their own cause.
As for the editorial by Mr. Pitts, he seems to have forgotten it was the negro african tribe leaders who sold their own people into slavery. Yet no blame has ever been shared with them.
Once again, let me kindly remind you my hub was not about debating whether Glen Beck was loosing advertisers. It is about direct quotes from Barack Hussein Obama that would lead some to perceive him as a racist. You have conveniently changed the subject and tried to focus it elsewhere and have yet to justify his statements or validated his opinion as quoted above.
If you are so enamored with colorofchange.org's efforts in regard to Mr. Beck's advertising woes-write a hub about it or start a forum discussion.
I could care less if he is losing advertisers, I like him, I agree with him and I will still watch him. Many like me will continue to do so and may even consider a boycott of our own to those advertisers who pander to one political party over another.
After all, conservative, liberal, republican or democrat we all need a deal on our car insurance.
Do you agree that advertisers are, have, discontinued their support of Glenn Beck? Or am I debating with a table? As Pitts observed you are playing a dirty racist game the same as Glenn Beck. If you don't like Obama why don't you explain why rather than citing feeings he had when he was growing up black in a white society.
I don't know if advertisers are leaving Beck, maybe some are and I don't care.
I don't like Obama because of his lack of experience, his apologistic attitude for our country, his racist view of white america, his socialist agenda including governmental control of our freedoms such as health care and redistribution of wealth and to many other specifics to get into here.
Back to this hub:
Do you disagree that his statements quoted above could be considered 'racist'?
What do you think he meant when he said he would stand with the muslims?
He didn't write these books as a child. He wrote them recently and they speak inherently on his views and attitudes as an adult and the leader of this country.
Did he grow up black in a white society? I thought he grew up bi-racial in Kenya and Indonesia? I didn't know they were considered 'white' societies.
Hmmm, guess I was the one debating with a table... typical liberal-when you ask the tough questions they disappear.
I guess we are wasting our time on each other.
1. No I don't agree that Obama's statements about how he felt thirty or forty years ago when he was growing up could be considered racist. The statements are an honest recollection about how he felt when he was growing up as a biracial kid. They have no bearing about his current attitudes which are about as far as anyone could get from being a racist. (If I wanted to be nasty I'd say to you "Takes one to know one.")
Statement that "he would stand with the Muslims." I listened to the book tape, but I don't have a copy of the book to see what the context of the remark was. However, I assume that he meant that he respected the Muslim religion and that if Muslims are persecuted in this country he would "stand with them." That's my guess based on your out-of-context quote, (assuming it's an accurate out-of-context quote). It certainly doesn't mean he supports terrorists, Al Qaeda, mistreatment of women, etc. It means that he respects the Muslim faith which does not include terrorism, suicide bombing, etc., which are perversions of the faith. He could say the same thing, as a Christian, about Judaism or Buddhism or Hinduism without the sinister intent which you impute to him. All he's saying is that he respects other religions.
What do you think it means?
No, he didn't write the books as a child. He wrote an honest biography about himself as a child. There is no reason to think his current attitudes haven't changed as he grew up and was educated.
Obama is a uniter. You are the one who is a divider. Obama is not a socialist, and he does not have a racist view of white America (this is a figment of your imagination). He is doing his best to repair a badly broken health care system which will self-destruct in 20 years if costs continue to skyrocket, and he is much more likely to protect our freedoms than George Bush who spied on the phone conversations and emails of American citizens in violation of the law. Obama is doing his best to repair our relationships with our allies whose cooperation and help is required to deal with terrorism. George Bush passed a big bucket of you know what to Obama--huge deficit and increase in the national debt, the worst recession since the nineteen thirties, two unnecessary wars, and loss of respect around the world for America.
Good Morning Mr. Deeds. I agree that we are wasting our time on eachother. However, I will reply to your question above. I believe his statement about standing with the muslims reveals where his true loyalties lie. He was raised muslim and while attitudes and views can change I do not believe his have. His actions speak louder than words.
This is not the worst recession since the 30's, Carters recession was much worse! You liberals love to claim it as such so when it straitens out on its own (like it would have done sooner if your messiah the racist had not meddled with it)you can claim Obama is an economic genius! Typical liberal tactic of turning the racist label back on the one exposing the real racist. Ralph, it makes no difference what a dishonest person such as you claims, Obama is a Racist! You will always scream about the imagined injustices heaved upon Obama because like so many of his minions you are a socialist and do not want to admit it!
Mr. Deeds, thank you for inserting some reason and intelligence into this otherwise nonsensical diatribe by another indoctrinated, fanatical, right wing cracked pot.
Every one of these quotes has been taken out of context. You state that yourself. It is so obvious. It's one of the silliest pieces on Hub, frankly, and you are wasting your time and good brain--as am I--in even addressing it.
She likes writing, "I'm just asking." As if hers are unbiased questions meant to solicit true discussion and debate. Yeah. Right. I'm sure she's belongs to every Sarah Palin fan club out there.
Anyone who proudly asserts that she likes Glen Beck and agrees with him has shown her cards. Let's leave her to play Old Maids by herself, okay?
Barack Obama won the election by a significant plurality of electoral and popular votes. He has hit some rough spots lately, most of which have been fabricated by the right wing loud mouths and big corporations who truly fear that the much needed change he intends to make in this country will occur. I am confident, given his incredible intelligence and ability to rise above distractions, that in 3-1/2 years' time he will be reelected by an even great percentage. The turn-around has already started. Do not worry, Mr. Deeds.
The Republicans have been taken over by a fringe group of loud, obnoxious, and very hateful people. After having been quiet for the last eight years, the right wing militias are regrouping, just as warned earlier this year.
Most Americans have caught on to the tactics of intimidation and deceit. That is why the Republicans are losing voters in every election. The best thing we liberals and correct-thinking people can do at this point is not to pointlessly argue with these whack jobs, but to continue our involvement in local, state and national government. Write your representatives and let them know how you feel about the issues. This, we see, is working even now to counter the lies swirling around health care reform. Don't address the whack jobs; that does no good. Address those in government, those YOU elected to represent you.
When we helped Obama win the election we were strong, united, focused and wisely vocal. We must continue in that way. But we also must not be distracted by those who wish to distract us, with silliest, well represented by this piece.
Thank you anyway, Mr. Deeds, for trying. But as you know, you cannot knock down a brick wall with your head.
So...did anyone notice PCNiles did not address my questions or concerns about Barack Hussein Obama's obvious tendencies towards racism? Instead he typed a rather long diatribe/love letter to Mr. Deeds. Typical.
By the way PCNiles-I asked what he could possibly mean by these statements. Nothing was taken out of context-I quoted and asked what he meant. period.
I prefer solitaire to old maids you silly man.
Uhhhhhhhhhhh, is PC actually a man? I don't think they have men in Oregon! That wasn't nice was it?
I owe PC an apology-I just noticed that she is in fact a female. I should have looked at her profile picture more closely. I meant no disrespect or intent to offend. Liberal women are just as ridiculous as liberal men.
I really couldn't tell because of the cat!
You don't it an apology at all, just another liberal with a chip on its shoulder! I refuse to identify it as man or woman until I have independent proof!
lol, I know what you mean Tex!Well-she has been here for four weeks and has no hubs...so maybe she is just here stalking Mr. Deeds, following him wherever he goes...
Stalking Deeds would imply a mental disorder! Sounds about right!
Interesting Hub. Regarding your last paragraph, I'm getting worn out with the race issue surrounding Obama. People seem to forget that he is 50% African American and 50% English descent. But no, the whole world capitalizes on him being African/American. People should see him as a President, not a Colour.
I agree Lady E. His color is irrelevant.
Based on what you've posted here of his own words, yes, he's racist. And he chose to be. His mother was white. Why not be of equal mind about his parents. Your mother may treat you like crap (not saying his did) but no matter what she does, you never end up hating her, just because she's your mom. So yeah, he seems full of hate, because even though his own mom was white, he actually chose a politically expedient stance against whites to further his own aims. The only word I can think of for that kind of act is pathetic. Nice hub rs - very thought provoking.

you got me... He is a good speaker, after that, it's just a miserable man, pained by his background, and out to get revenge.... not exactly the "Abe Lincoln" he claimed he was. Hillery would have been a better choice for the Dems. I'm a conservative and I hated McCain. Let's hope a real leader who loves freedom runs next time!
