America We Need Your Help

I took an interest in Darfur after visiting the Holocaust museum in Houston where I came across some vivid pictures and captions about the situation in Darfur. At that time Bush was president and the policy concerning Darfur was not going to change when it was clear that Barrack Obama would be the next president. It was a joy to know he had a different view of Darfur here's a quote from Mr. Obama "We should be engaged in Darfur. We have a self interest and a stake in preventing hundreds of thousands from being slaughtered."According to most reports, around sixty thousand have died since Obama took office and his policy concerning Darfur seems weak and uncaring, not as moving as his earlier comments.

As we hear claims from the UN-African Union, a U.N. peacekeeping force in Darfur, that the war is over then why are three million refugees refusing to return home? Civil rights groups say because the Sudanese government has a military proxy group that ‘s committing atrocities outside the camps. So once the U.N presence is gone the war will heat up unless there is a respectable show that these acts of violence will not be tolerated.

We that have been touched by the horrors of Genocide and ethnic cleansing must call attention to the forgotten of Darfur; they must have a voice. I pledge to lend my voice to the cause of ending the suffering in Darfur. While lending a voice, I will ask even if I go unheard and unanswered, what about seeking a U.S. solution to the perils of the Sudan.

WE feel that president Obama will do nothing in Darfur. Here's a reason he should do something with no foreign policy victory going into the midterm: turning the tide in the Sudan would be an achievement worthy of a raving review of his skills as a leader of a new America with a real approach to leading the world. Mr. Obama has been a critic of American foreign policy for a long time but we must have more than his do nothing approach to change the worlds view of America; why not start with Darfur?

In conclusion I believe and hope that president Obama will keep his word and take a stand on Sudan that will help establish America as the bold new leader of a global world that brings unity and stability to troubled areas that seeks to win acceptance and shows concern for the whole of humanity. We can no longer be a country of special interest; we have to stand for human rights whether we have a stake or not because only this demonstration of good will can change the view most of the world has of us .The time for change in foreign policy is now and what better place to make this statement but in the Sudan.

I agree that Obama is not fulfilling his campaign promises. It is sad to see so many people suffer in so many parts of the world, and I pray that these atrocities will some day come to an end. But in reality, The United States simply does not have enough military forces to to keep peace keeping forces everywhere they are needed. I wish we did. The United States no longer has enough finances to back peace keeping forces everywhere they are needed. Genocide is a horrible disgusting thing. It is incomprehensible. No people should be subject to it. But unfortunately our country has people dying everyday of hunger and malnutrition, heatstroke in the summer, hypothermia in the winter, illness because they have no medical care, abortion because it is still legal, gang violence, narcotics and alcohol abuse. We have prison overcrowding so they are letting criminals out early instead of building more, because there is not enough money, programs for the elderly and disabled are losing their funding because there is not enough to go around, the education of our children is cut back so much that they are graduation without being able to form a proper paragraph, without being able to spell, without basic math skills, and no trade skills at all. People are losing their homes and living in their cars or on the streets. Several families are all squeezing into one small house because they can't manage financially on their own. The people of the United States need help and face it. The United States has a duty to help their citizens first. I am not trying to be cruel in any way, but our budget deficit is already out of control. If the USA is broke and cutting back programs that help its citizens how can they justify sending aid to other countries?

I have two close friends at the UN Forces in Darfur, and am aware that the situation really has not improved ...

To be honest, I am not sure whether Obama can influence the situation much except by direcctly sending in troops. Biden had made a call for that in 2007, but is mum now. It was not possible then, and is not possible now - what with the flagging economy and existing US military commitments.

It's a big mess and a bigger dilemma. Where lies the solution?

A call for believers to spend five minutes in prayer for the hand of God to touch the leaders of the Sudan and end the killing in Darfur I hope all faiths that believe in one God will pray.

I see the issue in Darfur and indeed all of Sudan being determined by the Comprehensive Peace Agreement but I don't want to wait until 2011 when it takes effect.

Personally, the more noise we make, the less Omar al-Bashir can get away. He already has an arrest warrant by the ICC. Let's see if he is actually convicted.
