Basic needs of basement flooring

Basement is the place where we store all kind of stuff. As a result, the flooring should be tough enough to last for long. Whatever type of flooring you choose, make the place waterproof. Mildew and mold resistant floorings are most advisable. The flooring should be water proof. However, some houses have a good waterproofing. Hence any sort of flooring can be used in basement. These are the types of basement flooring, each of which possess different beneficial features.

Tips for flooring of basement

Generally people pay less attention to the basement flooring. The outcome of their ignorance is a dull and dingy cave like room. When the basement is provided with proper flooring, it illuminates and looks comfortable. You will feel like spending some time at this room rather than getting scared of it. You can even convert the basement room into a family room or office. According to its use, the basement flooring will change.

Cement and concrete layering

First of all, fill the cracks generated in the original basement flooring. Along with that, waterproofing should also be done. The cheapest option for basement flooring is to paint it with cement or concrete. Such kind of layering looks like a classy stone flooring.

Linoleum flooring

The linoleum flooring is the excellent option for the flooring. This is durable and low maintenance flooring. Hence this flooring can be installed in basement without giving it a second thought.

Tiling

Tiling can be the best choice for basement. There are variety of styles and colors available in tiles. Ceramic floor tiles are durable and require fewer efforts for maintenance. Since the tiles are cheaper than any other flooring type, you will not feel bad if you have to change them any time.

Engineered flooring

The engineered flooring can be the ideal one for the basement. This is made up by constructing three to four layers of hardwood materials on one another. This makes the flooring tough and durable. Since the flooring is made up of several layers, it is resistant to the moisture and humidity. This way, the chances of formation of green algae are reduced.

Laminate flooring

Laminate flooring is recommended in dry atmospheric conditions. If the basement is going to remain dry for sure then the laminate flooring is a better option. The laminated floors are expensive, but are low on maintenance. If you are going to convert the basement into a living room or office, then laminate flooring has no choice. Only keep the moisture out of the basement. Waterproofing and moisture proofing is necessary.
