As An Answer To The Request On How To Get Your Website Ranked High In The Search Engines

Probably you worked hard to build a nice brand new website, submitted to few search engine and now you're sitting and hoping that through some mysterious process people will show up by hundreds to your website. And if is not happening you wonder what can be done about that.

What you need is SEO, meaning Search Engine Optimization. I will try to put it as simple and less technical possible so everyone can use it and improve their search engine ranking. There are two ways to optimize your website for the search engines: onpage and offpage optimization.

OnPage Search Engine Optimization.

Keywords and Meta Tags

Let's say your website is about training dogs. You should start choosing a keyword or more related to your website topic, in our case dogs training, since the search engines display results based on the keywords used by searchers. Using a free keyword software like WordTracker for example, you do a little research about the best keywords to use. What i mean by best? The keywords that are most used by people when searching a specific topic. I did that for you and here are the results displayed:

Remember that this is only an example, but by results displayed above it seems that the best keyord for our example is "training dogs" ; people searched that term 117 times today. So you decide that this is your keyword. For a better optimization you should have 2 or 3 main keywords.

Now you take that keyword and put it in Google search and watch the results: 437.000 results. This is your competition, this is what Google will display everytime when someone type that keyword, and to get in top of that list will be a bit too much for the beginning. So i used a little trick and put in Google search "training dogs guide" ( did i mentioned that you put the keywords in quotes?). And voila! Only 1.510 results! Much easier to overcome, right?

So we found our keyword. Optimizing your website for that keyword means that you should put it

  • in your website title, like www.trainingdogsguide.com, or www.xxxxx.com/trainingdogsguide
  • In your page name, for example" my training dogs guide homepage"
  • first header or <h1> tag wich look like this <h1> My FirstTraining Dogs Guide Online </h1>
  • in the text of your page in a proportion of 3-5% (too much will look to Google like spam)
  • if your web editor use meta tags than you should put your keyword in Meta Description (is the text that shows below an website address when Google displays results) and

  • put all your keywords in Meta Tags (i've heard that is not so relevant for Google anymore, but other search engines may still use it)

OffPage Search Engine Optimization.

The most important thing you can for your website to rank high on the search engines is to add links to it. Did you know that if your site is linked to a high ranked site, his rank will go up automatically? Well is true, the same as if you are linked to a low ranked site your rank goes down rapidly and you will never know why. So how can you get high ranked website to link to your website? This make me smile....No, don't worry, is nothing illegal, not even unethical. Is just so damn simple, you are watching at the answer!

Right, Hubpages have a high rank; just make a relevant Hub and link it to your site! The same apply for Squidoo, MySpace, Blogs, FaceBook, tons of free high ranking sites to link to your website. Do that and you won't believe the results. You'll get high rank and traffic to your website.

My Last Piece Of Advice.

Everything that i've explained to you above about how to improve your search engine ranking and much more i've learned from one great piece of software: WebCeo. This software will do all the work for you from one single working platform faster and better than you can do it by yourself. They have also an excellent training program, and the better part about this software is that is FREE! Yes, you heard right, and i must have a very good karma to find it, so i think that is right to pass it forward for others to enjoy too. Use it wisely and came back to tell me what successes you're having with it!

You're right about meta description. there is just one more piece of advice that I will pass on to the readers from a conversation between Nathan Anderson and jack Humphrey. Rather than changing the permalinks on your blog, for example, to read the post name, that is not really as important as including the keyword in your title twice. Like jamaican economy by jamaican Economists James blair (or whoever the author is. Nathan doesn't even recommend the much touted All-in-one Seo Plugin
