For you to make use of the Wireless Internet facility on your laptop, you either need a wireless internetprovider or set up a router if  you have access to a DSL or non wireless cable. If you have a home wireless network that includes a cable or DSL modem, a wireless gateway that has around three or four wired network ports, and you have computers in different parts of your home{for example ;your bedroom, home office, and the kids' bedroom}. You can first of all give your wireless network a name, and make sure your home network is a multimode while the gateway should work with a built-in 802.11b.  The name that is given to your home network is referred to as the SSID. You can do this by first of all powering up the gateway device and then power down the cable modem, the next step is to Connect the WAN port on the gateway to the Ethernet port on the cable modem. After this you can power up the cable modem. You can thereafter Connect the LAN Port 1 of the gateway to the Ethernet port on your home or office laptop or PC which has been connected to the cable modem. At this stage, your wireless connection has been completed, you can confirm this by shutting down your computer and restart it.
