Before you get any bathroom remodeling work done it is really important to think through what you want the room to be like. It is likely that you have a list of things that you want improved or changed because they are annoying you at the moment. It is important to plan for the future and think about what your needs might be then. If you want something to last then it is very important that you think through all you present and possible future needs as well as getting something good quality which will last you a long time even if it is likely to get a lot of wear and tear. For example, is it possible that you may have a bigger family and need more storage space? Perhaps you are getting older and it might be wise to think about getting a walk in shower rather than a bath. Will the quality of bathroom furniture you buy be good enough to cope with a battering maybe from children or heavier people?  Think about the height of the furniture as well – if you are tall you will want something high but if young children are using it then they will need something that is a bit lower.

The flooring is important, too. Carpet is soft underfoot and warm but if there is any leaking from the bath, the toilet or the sink it will soak through and be more likely to go through to the next floor. It will also go rotten or moldy if there are a lot of leaks on there. If you are worried about getting cold, you can always put a mat on the floor which is washable.

Think about lighting as well because you may need good light to do make up in the mirror and if you are long sighted this could be a big problem for you. The brighter it is, the easier it will be to see in the mirror. So bathroom remodeling is not as easy as it sounds as you need to put a lot of thought into every aspect of what has to be done in order to get the job right and make sure that it lasts.

In these times of recession it may not seem the right time at all to be thinking about bathroom remodeling however, you may find that it is a good time to have this sort of work done. There are many companies that are desperate to sell things at the moment and so you may find that you can get some real bargain prices for the things that you need for the bathroom. Not only may the fixtures and fittings be cheaper but you might be able to find some lower prices on paint, flooring, lighting and even accessories such as new towels, mats and rubbish bins. It is worth searching around for some bargains and even negotiating as people are desperate to sell and may be give you a discount if you buy a selection of things from them.

Of course if you can fit it all yourself then the bathroom remodeling job will really save you a lot of money. The labor though, could cost you a bit more money than you might expect. Because house sales are not good at the moment, many people have decided to stay put and remodel their houses instead. Some have extended and others are doing theirs up in the hope that it will help them to sell. This means that not only might it be hard to find someone to do the work for you, but it could be hard to get any price reduction from them despite the current climate. This means that your bathroom remodeling could cost you maybe about the amount of money that it could have cost you before the recession.

If you are managing to be one of the few people that is benefiting from the recession, perhaps you are in a business that is thriving in this economic climate or you are finding that your mortgage payments are much lower due to the low interest rates then you might want to take the opportunity to spend some money. It may even be a good time to borrow money, while interest rates are low, although getting a loan is not as easy as it used to be, with the banks under pressure at the moment to lend more sensibly. However, it could be worth a try, you never know what might happen.
