How to be A Unique Bride

What three words come to your mind when you think of a wedding dress? White, long and elegant? If you are pretty unconventional and venturesome like I am, you probably agree that a white, long, elegant wedding gown is so darn boring. On the wedding day, the spotlight doesn't shine on the rabbi, the ring bearer or even the groom, but on the bride and her dress! It is the bride's biggest day. The gown selected, therefore, should suit her personality and represent her real style, not the stereotypical ideal of bridal fashion.

Who says brides can't wear trousers?

Pants suits are not only for businesswomen and gay weddings. Wear a pants suit on your wedding day if a fluffy wedding gown makes you feel so uncomfortable. It's your day, so be yourself! I actually think white pants suits are very classy, cute and snappy. Look at this one on J. Lo., for example. If you have short hair, you may consider wearing dangle or chandelier earrings to soften your look a little bit. A short stylish veil goes well with this sassy style.

Be Exotic!

If you want to look graceful and interesting, yet not too funky, a sari can be a good choice. Sari is the traditional female garment in India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. It can be worn in various ways, but the most common style is to wrap one end around your waist and drape the other end over your shoulder. The blouse worn beneath a sari can be sleeveless, backless, cropped or halter neck. Nice accessories to go with it are rhinestone bracelets and upper arm bracelets. Elaborate henna hand painting will also heighten the degree of exoticism!

Modern Brides

To create a cool modern look of the new millenium, use the silver and gold shades, shiny fabrics such as silk, metallic brocade and satin, and make the dress no longer than knee length. You can wear it with a traditional veil, funky hair ornament (like the above by Valentino), tiara or any kind of hair jewelry. This is an ultimately fun style that will go with almost all kinds of hairdos.

Red and Fabulous

It is your big day! Don't you want to stand out? Red, in fact, is the traditional color of bridal gowns in China, for it's supposed to bring good luck and prosperity to the couple. I don't really believe in this superstition, but still, I encourage women to wear red on their wedding day. White symbolizes purity and sincerity, whereas red signifies love and passion. If you already lost your virginity, wearing white won't make you become a virgin again. So just forget about the virginity crap. Have the bridesmaids wear a similar but lighter color such as purple or pink, so that their dresses will compliment yours, without stealing your limelight. Wearing a lengthy red veil or decorating your hair with red roses will make you look even hotter!

Remember one of Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock's weddings (I think they did it three times altogether) when she wore a white bikini as her bridal outfit? I'm not usually a big fan of hers at all, but I've got to admit that she looked so deliciously stunning that day.

A bikini, of course, is perfect for a beach wedding where everyone can just relax and have fun. I don't have any advice for this bridal style, really. You can wear it with any type of accessories, do your hair any way you want, and still look voluptuously adorable. I'm all for thinking outside the box. Have a great time designing or searching for a unique wedding dress that expresses your true style. Don't be afraid to be yourself.

I am an Indian. But instead of the traditional Saree I chose to wear a white wedding gown on my marriage along with white pearl Tiara and jewelry. I cannot think of any other day i looked as pretty.
