Be a Professional Blogger

It may seem like an unlikely way to make any decent money, but getting hired to produce regular blog content is fast becoming the newest way to earn money for online writing. Blogs may strike you as the domain of chatty teens with nothing better to do than ramble about their lives, and I suppose that is how the blog concept began.

But today, blogs are the hottest form of website content and can be found for any subject matter that you can think of. They are no longer just personal rants and opinions, either. Blogs can present articles, news and helpful information.

What makes a blog different from a more traditional form of website, is the dated format. Posts are made frequently (at least weekly, but more commonly daily). People are drawn back to a blog because there is always something fresh being presented.

So how can you make money at being a blogger? As with all online writing, you can either get hired by someone else or create your own website. When you get a blogging job, you will likely be expected to produce short pieces of content (150-500 words) on a very frequent basis. Some employers will expect several each day. You will have to be prepared for that kind of output in order to be a blogger. You'll need an informal tone, as well. Blogs are usually seen as a personal presentation of material. Of course, the nature of the blog will change from site to site.

Some companies hire you to write on a topic related to their products, in order to promote them at every opportunity. Other companies run blogs that exist only to provide reading material for visitors, and make their money from ad revenue. These types of blogs exist for all kinds of topics, like lifestyle, technology, and fashion. There is no limit.

If you prefer to create your own blog, then the same basic rules will apply. You'll need to post often and offer up interesting tidbits at all times. People like blogs that are constantly updated and that is the key to succeeding. Add some advertising, and you're ready to go.
