The Wonders of Guimaras Island

Guimaras is an island province of the Philippines which belongs Western Visayas region with the capital town Jordan.  The island of Guimaras is located between the Islands of Panay and Negros.  It is sub-province of Iloilo before but gained its independence on May 22, 1992.

 

Guimaras is considered the youngest and smallest among provinces composing the Western Visayan Region 6 with area of 604.7 km2 and population of around 142,000.

 

Guimaras is known as the "Mango Country", as it has 8,000 hectares of mango orchards managed by corporations and individual growers which produces world first class and best organic mango.

 

It is also known not only for the best mango but also of its unspoiled natural beauty for the eco tourism of the province.

RELIGIOUS HERITAGE

  1. Trappist Monastery founded bya group of American monks in 1972
  2. Bala-an Bukid Shrine it is located on top of the Bundulan Pointat Bgy. Hoskyn, Jordan; pilgrimage site for Catholics every first of Mayand Holy Week.
  3. Navalas Church a  historical church built in idyllic coastof Bgy. Navalas, Buenavista in 1880; has served as a refuge for the localsin times of distress.
  4. Ang Pagtaltal sa Guimaras is a holy lenten presentation stagedon the hillside of Jordan every Good Friday.
