Dyslexia tends to touch all aspects of the life of the person who is suffering from it. P. I want you to understand that despite my learning disabilities and my difficulties in school, I still managed to find ways to deal with my dyslexia continuing to be a successful individual. If you are struggling with your major in college, I suggest thinking about how you look at the world, and researching other majors that will reflect exactly how you think. It can be the difference of failure or success for the individual suffering with this debilitating ailment. I finished my graduate degree with a 3. From understanding driving directions, to speaking and writing, the dyslexic mind will distort information making it almost impossible to understand or will show a non-dyslexic person an interesting perspective on how to look at a given problem. Dyslexia can be one of the most frustrating things to deal with in adulthood.
Public Speaking
If you are just realizing this is a problem, there are a few tools I can give you to help you combat this embarrassing issue. Since dyslexics flip pronouns around and will say an inversion of what they mean to say, the simple task of thinking through a sentence or phrase will help to eliminate this embarrassing mistake. This is the perfect blend for me to make a pronoun flip flopping mistake. You will probably find this to be a simple yet very effective tool in combating the flip flopping aspect of the dyslexic mind.
Verb Agreements
The first is what was discussed in the last section - slow down when you are speaking so you can compile your thoughts and construct a good sentence that will convey your message to another person. So, this previous sentence is an example of a "dyslexic" moment, and unfortunately, a great example of how you would demonstrate to the person you are speaking with that you do not understand verb agreement. For example, if you just stated, "Your good work is a testament to the dedication you had for your company," correct yourself quickly by stating, "Excuse me, what I meant was your good work is a testament for the dedication you have for your company.
Writing
I hope you will find e-mail easier for you when communicating with others. For dyslexics, writing is probably one of the best ways to communicate because one can go back and correct whatever they have written.
Taking Standardized Tests
None of the above
To underline key phrases, ask yourself, "What is the author of this test asking me?" Then, promptly answer the question you have asked yourself. This is important because you are identifying what is important in this question. " Once you have answered your own question, underline the key phrases in the sentence. 21. For example:
The feral cat population is heavy in certain parts of the country. Cats "dumped" by their owners in certain locations such as rivers, mountains and shopping centers
C. Standardized test exams can be not only challenging, but increasingly frustrating and difficult. You should be asking yourself, "Where do I go wrong?" This question will help you focus on how to solve the problem you are experiencing when taking this type of exam. Cats that are not spayed and neutered
B. Those that do not have any problem with standardized tests will tell you that they never skip over questions without filling in an answer, they do not read into the questions and they do not fill in the wrong answer knowing what the right answer is. Look at past exams and look at how you answered the questions.
Instructions
Remember, some of the best ways for dyslexics to communicate with others is through writing or e-mail. Dyslexia is a disability, but using the right tools will help you get through anything you have to, regardless of whether you have dyslexia or not. The bottom line for combating dyslexia simply is getting into the hang of rereading, proofreading, double and triple checking everything you say or do. Studying similar tests will help you get in the mindset of taking the given exam and understanding how the questions will be asked will only help you to succeed. Dyslexics often have to take more time to prepare for the type of exam they will be taking so you will find it is imperative to study the types of test questions in addition to the material you will be tested on. Remember that learning how to live with dyslexia will be life long. If you find these tools are helping but you need to find other ways to combat dyslexia in adulthood, contact a professional tutor or educator who specializes in special education.
