Henna or mehndi, is common in India, the Middle East and North Africa. Traditionally, henna patterns are applied to signify a special occasion, usually a wedding.Hindu brides and sometimes grooms, for example, have intricate mehndi designs piped onto their hands, forearms, feet and calves. Moroccan culture makes use of the art of mehndi for many special occasions, including weddings, births, engagements and birthdays. In recent years, temporary skin decoration with henna has become popular in Western countries as well.
Henna at its finest

Most Henna lovers today prefer to have their henna applied by trained professionals. A professional will ensure that the end result is highly desirable. Computer graphic designs are also used with the traditional mehendi designs. Traditional Arabic designs of mehendi have now become popular in India. woweee that is beautiful..the video was 4 min. but how long in real time? and how long does it last on the woman's body...What an interesting way to do up a bride...Love the ways of different culture's...the world is a wonderful place and we are one big family....now if some of us could just behave..lol Thank you for sharing this I loved it...G-Ma :o) hugs
Hi Ms Violet, Thank you so much for stopping by, actually Henna is totally different from makeup. Think of a juicy leaf, now smash it up, take the juice and use it as ink to paint your body. only that this is much stronger than paint and it can take about 4 days to completely disappear if you wash it away with water and soap. Nowadays in this busy world where women go to work the very next day after they get married, stick-on henna is being used. so there is one way to save yourself the trouble of cleaning up but pls note if you are going for the real stuff, remember the only color a henna leaf cannot produce is black. the black henna we see being sold are mixed with chemicals which is known to cause skin cancer, so there you go and thank you once again for dropping by
NANA sweet sweet Nana... so nice of you to take sometime to come view my hub. The video of the girl getting a henna was 4 mins but in fact the entire process is about 4 to 5 hrs depends on how fast your artist is. Many westerners are adopting the Henna culture. In Singapore there are alot of Americans and they bring so many of their cultures and traditions when they come here and bring back many practises we have to the States. THAT IS ONE WAY OF SPREADING DIFFERENT CULTURES AROUND THE WORLD. Thank you Nana for dropping by to comment on my hub. I really appreciate it.
I've had henna put in my hair but didn't know it was also used for body art. I learn something new everyday!! Very pretty hub Ashwin. Thumbs up.
Thank you so much Ms Dottie. your compliments means so much to me.

Wow. I've had a small henna in Khaosan Road in Thailand but not as fancy as the ones on your hub. Interesting.
Well you cant actually compare with these girls in my photos as they are fully painted from top to toe for their wedding sometimes sitting still from dusk till dawn. Anyway glad you dropped by buddy thank you
Very well done hub about Indian tradition and art, Ashwin. I'm sure this hub can do well.

That is absolutely beautifull. Like compu-smart I like the fact that it is not permanent and it just washes off. I loved that butterfly!
Thank you so much Ms Princessa for dropping by. Its so fun we can design our entire body with whatever art we want and once we get tired we just washed it off... another important fact is which just came to my mind is mistake are erasable.. :=)
There are several women that come into my work with mehandi designs which are beautfiul. The video was great.
you mean Indians or fellow Americans donning mehandhi? But honestly sweetie pie i love it if an american woman goes Indian or Arabic. Westerners have such a universal beauty built natuarally that you all look stunning in almost every culture. thanks for visiting and glad you enjoyed the video
Nice article about henna. I wish there were some henna parlours in US!! I sure do miss India a lotttttttttt
Im surprised there are no henna parlours in the US. Maybe someone should invest in one since its getting popular there. You must be settled down there. Hope you get your wish to visit your country soon Ms. Thank you for stopping by.

Hey I liked that work of butterfly on hand. But I have not heard of these terms "Henna or mehndi". Are they some ingredient to make these designs? Looks like tatoo. Does it remain for ever like some tatoo work? And since it is applied on hand, will it be hygenic while having food with hand, like having burgar?

Hi Packerpack,
Henna is a safe vegetarian food dye. Is hygienic, eventually dissappears especially on hands as they are washed frequently. The last time I had henna it lasted only a week. Whereas My sisterinlaw found tricks to making it last longer eg add tea leaves or lemon. (will last twice the time). Henna for me is a temporary tatoo - as not into the real thing. Mendhi is the north indian word for henna.
