Beautiful Filipina Actresses
92Beautiful Filipina Actresses
Having done a Hub on Japanese actresses and several on the women of Bollywood, I thought I would do one on Filipina actresses.
Now there are several stunning women that you may already know about that are Filipino or have Filipino heritage....
American glamour model Alley Baggett is of Filipino and Hispanic descent.
Wayne's World, Wayne's World 2 and Relic Hunter star Tia Carrere is of Filipino descent.
80's sex symbol Phoebe Cates (remember the "pool scene" in Fast Times at Ridgemont High?) is of Chinese, Filipino and Russian Jewish descent.
High School Musical star Vanessa Anne Hudgens is of Irish, Native American, Chinese, Filipino and Spanish descent.
One of the most beautiful women in the world (to me at least) Natassia Malthe is of Norwegian and Filipino heritage.
Vanessa Minnillo is Italian, Irish and Filipino.
And the lead singer of The Pussycat Dolls, Nicole Scherzinger is Hawaiian, Filipina and Russian.
This Hub is about some of the female stars of Philippine cinema that you may have never heard of, starting with......
Katrina Halili
Filipina actress, commercial model and music producer, Katrina Halili was born on January 4, 1986 in Quezon City, Philippines.
Katrina made her debut in 2002's StarStruck a Philippine talent competition.
She had gone on to appear in over eighteen television shows, including playing "Black Darna" in the Philippine Super Hero TV show Darna.
In addition to TV, Katrina has appeared in ten movies, including another super hero based project, Super Noypi.
Sarah Geronimo
Filipina singer and actress, Sarah Geronimo was born on July 25, 1988 in Santa Cruz, Manila, Philippines.
Sarah has released seven albums, five of which have gone platinum.
Popstar: A Dream Come True, her debut album in 2003 is the twentieth highest selling album in OPM (Original Pilipino Music) history, with 210,000 plus copies sold.
Besides music, Sarah has appeared on 14 television shows and she even had her own series in 2004 called Sarah, The Teen Princess.
She has also appeared in six movies, including the Super Hero movies Captain Barbell and Lastikman: Unang Banat.
Lastikman and Captain Barbell, by the way, was created by the same man that created Darna, Mars Ravelo. (I keep mentioning these movies because I like comics!)
Angel Locsin
Okay, here is the star of Darna herself, the beautiful Angel Locsin.
Angel was born on April 23, 1985 in Bulacan, Philippines.
She rose to fame as Alwina in the fantasy television series Mulawin in 2004.
But it was her role as the super hero Darna that put her over the top.
Darna the TV series came out in 2005, but Darna the character was created by Mars Ravelo in 1947, so Darna is a Filipino comics icon.
(Darna was drawn by Nestor Redondo who later went on the work for DC and Marvel comics).
Although Mulawin and Darna made Angel popular, her first role was in the 1999 teen-oriented series Click.
Angel made her first film appearance in the 2000 film, Ping Lacson: Supercop.
KC Concepcion
Filipina actress, singer, vj, model, and UN World Food Program ambassador KC Concepcion was born on April 7, 1985 in Manila, Philippines.
KC has appeared in films, television and on stage.
She also released an album "a.k.a. Cassandra" (Maria Kristina Cassandra Cuneta Concepcion is KC's full name)
On stage she has appeared in The Little Mermaid as Princess Sapphire, Beauty and the Beast as Belle and Katy, the Musical Concert.
In 2003 she began a stint as a VJ for MTV Asia.
In 2008, the United Nations World Food Program made her a National Ambassador Against Hunger.
That same year she debuted on television with the drama anthology I Am KC.
And she debuted on the big screen in the romantic film, For the First Time with Richard Gutierrez.
Precious Lara Quigaman
Precious Lara Quigaman was born on January 3, 1983 in Taguig, Philippines.
She is an actress, model, host, freelance web page writer, and the 2005 Miss International.
Precious also won the Binibining Pilipinas beauty contest in 2005.
She debuted in the Filipino fantasy television series Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas, the third and the last installment of the popular Encantadia franchise in 2006.
Since then, she has gone on to appear in thirteen TV shows, the lateset being the Philippine drama series, May Bukas Pa ("There Is Still Tomorrow") which is based on the 1955 Spanish film The Miracle of Marcelino .
In 2008, Lara (along with beauty queens Karen Loren Agustin and Denille Lou Valena Valmonte) started the Turismo Pilipina beauty pagent to help encourage Philippine Tourism.
The finals of the first Turismo Pilipina pagent was held on November 14, 2008 at AFP Theater and was won by Sherylee Sustiguer from Northern Samar.

I think so too!
There's a whole bunch of beautiful Filipina actresses, truly unique and captivating. Thanks for featuring some of them here. KC Concepcion happens to be the daughter of a dear family friend, actor Gabby Concepcion. She is beautiful, intelligent and well bred.

I was kinda shooting in the dark and learning about them as I went along.
Did you know Sandra Rink is half Filipino? :)
Hmmm...no I didnt.

PD: By the way I think every single woman in the world is beautiful! (even some have their beauty a little bit hidden ;)
Wow, these ladies are absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for sharing this hub.
Jac Jim and dohn121, thanks for stopping by.
Part of the reason I'm doing these Hubs is to not only let people find out about these ladies, but to provide some info so we don't just have a bunch of pictures and nothing about them.
If you think someone is beautiful, you should look at the whole picture.

I LIKE ANGEL LOCSIN ONE HUNDRED PERCENT
...they are all beautiful (although there's still a lot of beautiful actresses out there)- my mother's favorite here is Sarah Geronimo,a great singer..thank you for sharing ma'am! :)
Angel
Let me differ with you here. Not because most of them are not lovely, but because they also represent what is acceptable as beautiful in the Philippines:
1. If your skin is on the light side, that is deemed decidely more beautiful than darker skin, which, incidentally, is the true color of the filipina without spanish, american or chinese blood strains;
2. If the face, and especially the nose - which is more beautiful thinner than the characteristic "flat" nose of most indigenous filipinos - then that is deemed more beautiful. Again, however, this doesn't represent the more ethnically true filipina;
3. There are other differences regarding body type where thin and tall is deemed more lovely than short and slightly stockier, and size of breasts, where larger is deemed more desirable than the typical size, small.
And so in this sample of filipinas, I don't see one who is representative of the true pinay beauty! Not one. Because most of the filipino fashion magazines are filled with lightskinned, tall and thin women like the above sample, it's likely going to be up to someone like me to set the record straight with pictures of women that are closer to what it is to look like a filipina.
Yes, you may argue that any blood strain is an equal candidate to be declared as a filipina, but I would suggest that if any woman's true filipino blood has been so diluted as to render her looks similar to that of a white western or oriental woman, then the public, including hub readers, will not know the difference..
And the difference? Well, through my eyes, there is a certain look in the face and body manner in the usually provincial filipina that is simply exquisite! I can't describe these looks without pictures, but these women are definitely not akin to those shown above! There is a look, an appearance, a style, that goes beyond the cosmetic to what it is to be a true filipina! Give me time and I will try to capture this for both viewers and readers.
angel locsin is my bet
Danerobb:I totally understand what you mean. I ran across that discussion when I was researching this.
What I was doing here was showing the most popular Filipina actresses in Philippine cinema regardless of their racial make-up.
Thanks for stopping by.
ANGEL LOCSIN HAS A BIG HEART FOR THE NEEDY, THE HOTTEST STAR AMBASSADOR OF THE PHILIPPINE NATIONAL RED CROSS. VERY ADORABLE
I agree with Danerobb What any media in any country across any culture and or ethnic spectrum shows and deems beautiful is far removed from what the majority and true representation of that culture. And most of the times a lot of self altering and photo shopping have to be done to get that image to look like that. This in turn creates a self esteem problems for the most mentally and emotionally fragile of that given culture. The Average Filipina doesn't look like that, heck the norm is not that so why is that the standard of beauty?
And most Americans don't look like Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox or Scarlett Johansson.
A lot of the women that are represented as "beautiful" are of a diverse racial make up.
Maybe we are moving towards a global version of "beauty" that doesn't take racial background into consideration.
I totally agree that the "stars" of any culture's entertainment field do not look like the standard everyday person, but we have had that situation for years.
If you look at my Native American Hub, most women there are not full blooded Native American, but I myself being of mixed Native American heritage, take no offense in that.
All are cute but not beautifull
I agree with danerobb on some provincial Filipinas, but being an urban gal, I know for sure that most Filipinas do have some racial stain. I, for one, was born out of a Bicolano father and an Ilocano mother. Both of them came from the provinces and I was born here in Manila, yet both of them have some Spanish blood, and it manifests in me and my sister too.
Even the history of early Filipinos shed doubt on what really constitutes a true Filipino blood. We were taught since kindergarten that Filipinos come from the lines of the Itas, Indones and Malays, who came to the Philippines either by land or by sea. In that case, there really are no Filipinos who originated from the country (since we're so separated from the rest of the countries, although that supposed fact is currently being debunked by research and archaeological findings).
So what really constitutes true Pinay beauty? IDK, but what I know for sure is that most foreigners residing here in the Philippines, particularly the males, are married to Filipinas who do not seem to reach the average standard for Pinay beauty here (no offense). Perhaps that is the most obvious evidence that beauty is a matter of taste.
Regarding the hub...I don't think the list is enough. Surely, there are more Filipina actresses who deserves to be in your list than the others you've included. Katrina Halili is not liked by many; Sarah Geronimo is really not that beautiful. Again, it is a matter of taste. ;)
Good luck to your 30 hubs in 30 days challenge!
Wow..this Hub has gotten more discussion than any of my other Hubs. I really didn't expect it to be controversial (not that I mind, I love to read the exchange of ideas).
I'm open to any and all view points as long as we keep it clean.
(You should see some of the ones I had to delete because of bad language...geez)
But thanks to everyone for dropping by and taking the time to express their point of view.
