About "Beautiful Girls"
Fell in love with the movie the first time I saw it. Watched it more than 50 times since ... maybe 100. Never fails to please me.
Great cast for my money.
Plot Summary - Timothy Hutton is a small-time New York City lounge piano player. He returns home to attend a high school reunion and reunites with old friends - Matt Dillion, Michael Rapaport, Max Perlich, and Noah Emmerich.
He finds that two of his old high school buddies have relationship problems. Matt Dillon is having an ongoing affair with Lauren Holly, his high school sweetheart, who's a married woman. To complete the eternal triangle, Matt Dillon has a girlfriend, Mira Sorvino. But their relationship is tenuous. Meanwhile, Michael Rapaport is on the outs with his former girlfriend, Martha Plimpton, because he wouldn't make a long-term commit to her. As a counter-balance, Noah Emmerich is happily married man with children.
The movie's title comes from the fact that Michael Rapaport has posters of supermodels plastered all over his bedroom wall.
And now the plot thickens - Timothy Hutton, already confused about his own relationship back in Manhattan, has his head turned by the next-door neighbor - Natalie Portman, who's all of 13. Then Uma Thurman comes to town to visit her cousin and turns everyone's head. Michael Rapaport tries to use her to make his old girlfriend jealous. And then there's a showdown between Matt Dillon and his high-school sweetheart's husband.
This is a story of a bunch of small-town friends who experience universal problems that all of share, no matter where we live. It's also the story of how they cope with how they've reached this point in their lives.
Rosie O'Donnel is also in "Beautiful Girls" and I can't stand Rosie O'Donnell. To me, she's no-talent loud-mouth. But in this role, she delivers a speech that sums up exactly how I feel about the younger generation of females who've gotten into shaving their private parts. I've already stated my position in The Beaver - In Danger of Extinction?

My Favorite Quote
Rosie O'Donnell is in a convenience store with Matt Dillon and Timothy Hutton. She knows about their obsession with super-models. She picks up a copy of a men's magazine. She opens to the centerold and begins to lecture them.
Rosie O'Donnell - ... Look at the hair. The hair is long, it's flowing, it's like a river. Well, it's a fucking weave ok? And the tits, please! I could hang my overcoat on them. Tits by design were invented to be suckled by babies. Yes, they're purely functional. These are silicon city. And look, my favorite, the shaved pubis. Pubic hair being too unruly and all. Very key. This is a mockery, this is a sham, this is bullshit. Implants, collagen, plastic, capped teeth, the fat sucked out, the hair extended, the nose fixed, the bush shaved... These are not real women, all right? They're beauty freaks ...
