Home Made Beauty Treats
If you're like most busy moms or dynamic career women, then you need a little pampering for your tired body all the more. The problem is - you hardly have the time to go to the beauty salon or spa; and then, you probably would rather spend hard-earned money on just the essentials. But wait! The stuff you need for a practical yet nourishing body-treat might just be waiting for you in your kitchen.
Your hair, the part of your body most affected by stress and ageing, not to mention most noticeable, would benefit from these easy, cost-less, and natural ways to shine:
HAIR SPA AT HOME
Banana-Mango Spa
Combine 2 Vitamin E capsules with 1 ripe banana, 1/2 soft ripe mango, and egg yolk in blender. Blend until smooth. Wet your hair and apply the mixture. Cover with a shower cap for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water thoroughly, then shampoo as usual.
Mayo Hair - Revitalizer
Rub 2-6 tbsps of mayonnaise into your hair before washing. Leave under a shower cap for 15 mins, then rinse and shampoo as usual.
Avocado Conditioning Hair Masque
Combine equal parts of mashed avocado and mayonnaise. Apply to wet hair throughout. Cover with a shower cap for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water thoroughly, then shampoo as usual.
Therapy Oils
Add almond oil with coconut oil (just enough to massage into your hair). You can heat them up or just shake vigorously in a bottle to blend. Apply it at least 20 minutes before washing your hair.
Dandruff Buster
Mix 1 part apple cider vinegar to 3 parts warm water to balance scalp pH and control dandruff. You can also apply undiluted vinegar to the scalp. Allow it to penetrate, then shampoo with a mild shampoo.
For Squeeky Clean Ultra Shiny Hair
Mix 1 part apple cider vinegar to 3 parts warm water and use as a final rinse AFTER shampooing. Condition as usual. Gets rid of shampoo residue build-up, leaving your hair soft and shiny.
No Residue Hair Rinse
Mix 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar, 1 tbsp lemon juice, and 2 tbsp baking soda to 2 cups of warm water. Use to rinse hair. Gets rid of shampoo residue build-up.
Hair Softener
Mix 1/2 cup honey and 1/4 cup olive oil. Work a small amount at a time through hair until coated. Cover hair with a shower cap, leave on 30 mins. Shampoo well and rinse.
Pro-biotic Alternative Conditioner
Plain yoghurt. Shampoo your hair then massage the yoghurt. Leave it in a while as you shower then rinse with warm water. It's naturally protein-rich.
Yolk Conditioner
Combine 2 beaten egg yolks and 2 tsp olive oil. Add to 1 cup warm water. Massage onto scalp as you would a normal conditioner. Rinse thoroughly.
Darken Dull or Greying Hair
Use black tea as final conditioner rinse. The little caffeine that black tea has stimulates growth. It's antioxidizing properties keeps hair healthy and youthful.
Best Healthy Hair Fix
Drink 8 glasses of water a day to keep skin hydrated, and hair shiny (plus, flush out toxins while keeping the digestive system working well). In a few short weeks, you'll be amazed at how dewy and youthful your skin looks, and how shiny and glowing your hair flows.
