A physiotherapist is a person trained in that field of allied health where treatment is done for physical impairments that occur due to injury, illness, aging, etc. The basic requirement for becoming a physiotherapist is college education and not below the level of a master’s degree. Though it does not matter which subject you are a bachelor in, a science major makes it easy. Finally, after completing the course in physiotherapy you must obtain a license to practice the job and must follow some guidelines to keep your license valid.

The next thing you need to make your entry into physiotherapy courses easier is the volunteer service that you have put in. If you have experience in volunteering as physical therapy aide apart from your other community service activities, the letter of recommendation that you get from the licensed physiotherapist counts as added qualification during the entry to the courses.

To become a physiotherapist you will need thorough knowledge of the body and how the different parts work. You should also know what the effects of different types of injuries, diseases and illnesses are so that you can treat it in the right way. The objective of the physiotherapist is to cause the least pain while treating the affected person but have the maximum benefit of the therapy. You should also know the uses of the various instruments and devices that are used in the therapy.

Generally the therapy is aimed at increasing the general mobility of the patient. So he must have a good knowledge of the various applications like heat and ice application, ultrasound and electric stimulating device for pain relief and the exercises to generate mobility. They must also be well versed with the various signs of any aggravation of the situation and any action that might be harmful to the patient.

The other thing that a physiotherapist must be knowledgeable in, is handling of the mental aspect of the treatment. Most of the times, any inability to move can bring in depression in people, the physiotherapist must know ways to encourage them and bring them out of the depression. It says if the patient shows sign of vitality, the body finds it easy to recuperate quickly.
