Becoming Happy In Your Body
76While it's perfectly alright to always be striving to improve your body's appearance, sometimes in the world where it seems everywhere you turn there are beauty and slimming secrets being revealed, it can get overwhelming. People start going to great lengths to do anything they can to make themselves feel more attractive when instead maybe what they should be concentrating on is changing how they think.
The truth of the matter is that when you have confidence in yourself you will automatically appear more attractive. You will carry yourself better and you will naturally tend to draw people into you. You need to get over your negative beliefs about your body to do this however so this should be a major focus for you if you have issues.
Choosing Your Own Path
The next thing is that you need to learn that you don't have to conform to others. You are in control of your destiny and choose what it is you want to do. If your co-worker's are all going out for fast food and you choose to eat alone at work instead, that's okay. You shouldn't feel as though you have to sacrifice your healthy choices in order to please them. If they are good people they will understand. If they aren't, do you really want people that try and sabotage your progress playing a major part in your life anyway? Granted you can't just ignore co-workers however you can limit the effect they have on you.
The "Ideal" Body
The first thing you need to do is accept that you may not fit the 'ideal'. What is the ideal anyway? And who says it's ideal? The media is always throwing images at you as to what you should look like but have you ever really stopped to notice these images. Some will be thin, some will be more curvy, others will be muscular; so is there really an ideal? No. People have personal preferences and regardless on how you look, you can be sure you aren't going to fit everyone's 'ideal'. So you might as well just accept that and work on being the best you can be so you can become your ideal.
Keeping Things In Perspective
While pursuing the process to a healthier body image you should also look at the bigger picture here. Sometimes people with body image issues have a tendency to just focus in on their minor flaws at the expense of letting go of the things that really matter. What has your body done for you in your life time? Often we become so critical of it when in all reality we should be appreciating everything it's given us. Think for a moment what you would do if you physically couldn't work out. Doing so really makes you appreciate the simple fact you don't have limitations like that. Sure you may not be the size 4 you are going for but you are able to get up in the morning and go for a run if you so choose. That in itself is going to be more important in creating a overall healthy lifestyle than fitting into your 'skinny' jeans.
So try not to let a negative body image get to you. Take some steps to ask a few key questions about why you perceive your flaws as flaws and if they really are. The moment you accept them as being a part of who you are, is the moment when your self-esteem will increase and likely also the moment others will not notice them nearly as much either.

Very important topic, hard to condense into just one Hub! I, myself have written at least half a dozen!
