What is a Bed in A Bag?

Bed in A Bag has become a term that describes a complete bedding set that is sold in one neat package. This usually (but not always) consists of:

  • one comforter or quilt
  • a dust ruffle
  • two pillow shams (one for twin size)
  • a fitted sheet
  • a flat sheet
  • and two pillowcases (one for twin size).

It is important to read the fine print on the set that you are buying to see what is actually included as this does vary.

All items are in a coordinating pattern. Essentially you can change the look of a room instantly with one purchase. Often matching accessories like window valances, towels, decorative pillows, wallpaper borders, you name it, are available as well - for an additional cost.

A Bed in A Bag may seem like a pretty good value on the surface. But it is important to evaluate whether you actually need all of the included items. For example, my children prefer a fuzzy blanket to a top flat sheet - so this item would sit in the closet untouched.

As you can see - if you don't plan to use the entire set - then it may be more cost effective to purchase the items separately. Sometimes, though, the individual items are not sold separately. And if you have your heart set on that particular pattern then you may need to get a little creative to get your money's worth.

Let's say you already have a dust ruffle in a neutral color. Then you won't need the one that comes with the set. In the past, I have actually taken the included dust ruffle and used my limited sewing skills to transform this into a window valance.

In the end, if you love the new look then it was all worth it!
