Bedroom Style Makeover: Wall Decor Puts Boredom to Bed
70
Since the bedroom is a private area of the house, it can be the last room on the list when it comes to decorating goals. But a bedroom should be treated with at least the same amount of respect as the rest of the house. Your bedroom walls are the last thing you see at the end of the day and the first thing you see every morning. The atmosphere in your bedroom should be soothing, warm and inviting. It should be a reflection of your distinctive style and personality.
Here are a few tips on creating a room full of style that rises up to meet you every morning.
1. Bring in color
If your bedroom walls are white and boring or dingy and dirty, the room will look bad no matter what else you do. So, first on your list is a fresh coat of paint. Choose a favorite color in a soothing tone. If you love green, for example, choose sage or sea foam green over chartreuse. The bedroom is not a place to over stimulate the senses. You want something pleasing and restful.
Wall paper is another option. Again choose tones and patterns that are easy to live with and easy to accessorize.
2. Come up a theme that’s all about your style.
Just because a bedroom is restful, it doesn’t have to be boring. Most of all it needs to please you because it’s your room. If you are a musician or music lover you could paint your walls in a soothing shade like parchment and add musical note wall hangings as an accent. If you love drama, pull in sumptuous satin bedding in shades of brown scattered with luxurious beaded and velvet throw pillows. For a very sophisticated look, mix in accents of watery, shimmering blue.
Maybe you are more of a laid back person who lives for a day on the beach. Shades of papaya and mango are wonderful accents to light blues and greens. Throw in a piece of metal tropical wall art for a focal point on the wall across from your bed. This way you get to enjoy the view. Go with palm trees and botanical themes for serenity or tropical birds for fun.
3. Turn on the lights
It’s important to have multiple sources of lighting in a bedroom. Overhead lights will provide enough illumination for general tasks, while bedside lamps or sconces beside or above the headboard will give you ample lighting for reading. If you like a ceiling fan, choose one that includes light fixtures and that will take care of your overhead lighting needs. Candles and small lamps elsewhere in the room provide romantic ambiance.
4. Personalize with memorabilia
A bedroom is a perfect place for personal photos, souvenirs and items that have special meaning in your life. For couples, you can create a small vignette on each partners night stand with a favorite photograph or small meaningful collectible pieces.
The key to creating a pleasing bedroom is to banish the clutter, keep it clean and don’t overdo it when choosing decorations. Whether you like music note wall hangings or metal tropical wall artchoose only pieces express your personality and style.

Hi Morris ---
You're right this particular room design does create an almost Zen like feeling with a minimalist approach, but you can use wall decor in any style room to help bring it to life. Thanks for all of your great feedback!

Good tips. There's a touch of minimalism/ zen in your approach, at least with regards to what's important, what should be essential, and I like that. Good stuff. I'm into home improvement myself.
