A writer claims bee pollen cures allergies. She says her husband, who has chronic allergies tried this remedy and it worked wonders for him.

Sara Snow, a writer for Tree Huggers, claims bee pollen is an effective remedy for allergies. If true, it will be quite useful for nearly 40 million allergy sufferers worldwide.

Allergy is a disorder of the immune system often also referred to as atopy. Allergic reactions occur to environmental substances known as allergens; these reactions are acquired, predictable and rapid. Strictly, allergy is one of four forms of hypersensitivity and is called type I (or immediate) hypersensitivity. It is characterized by excessive activation of certain white blood cells called mast cells and basophils by a type of antibody known as IgE, resulting in an extreme inflammatory response.

With flowers blooming everywhere now, there will be more allergic reactions. Snow said bee pollen strengthens your body and forms a tough defense against the pollen that tries to enter the body system. With a small daily doses of bee pollen, the body builds up its defenses and fights off allergens and avoids the reactions.

Her husband had tried several different methods before but he still had allergies, so he tested this bee pollen method. He was able to manage the whole season without any allergic reactions. Snow says her family uses bee pollen for a number of years to combat allergies.

When you buy bee pollen, she advises us to follow two things. One, to get the pollen with the greatest variety of color, which will indicate that pollen comes from a wide variety of plants and hence it will build a strong defense against allergens. Second, buy the pollen from the local stores, so that it will respond well to the plants around you.

To be safe, don't take bee pollen if you have a history of anaphylactic shock.

She recommends Whole Foods store or local farmer’s market. To find the local farmer’s market near you, click Local Harvest site.

I don’t have allergies, so I haven’t tried this product. But if you have taken this remedy in the past, please leave a comment for other readers.

I like the natural remedies. The medical industry won't pay attention, they will just give us high concentration drug medicines. Hope this remedy works, few of my friends suffer the whole spring because of allergies.

This is very interesting. We all have or know someone who suffers terribly through the summer with allergies. In fact, Constant Walker, I think, mentioned that he did - I'll tell him to come read your article. Thanks.

Zsuzy, thanks, that picture is fantastic.

Eileen, glad to hear your son was given bee pollen and worked.

Karen, thanks. Modern medicine helps ease allergies but they have side effects. I hope researchers study natural medicines independently research them because pharmaceuticals won't study them for profit reasons.

very interesting hub--and that photograph is amazing! I have also heard of people with arthritis and MS having bee sting therapy--evidently getting stung by bees can help. Bees are such wonderful and useful creatures and they are sickening and dying all over the world and nobody knows why. It is a terrible tragedy that will ultimately be as devistating for people as bees.

I had heard breifly about this and have heard about how Bees are really usefull in all kinds of things which i may have to hub about very soon especially if i have not seen hubs on this!!

Its so ironic that Bees are swatted, hated, yet once people are educated, they will find out that Bees are really truely amazing little things that can do a whole lot more than just cure and sting us lol !;)

Watch my space;?)

Honey is amazing in it's own respect. I am sure if this becomes more widespread someone will come out with a study proving it doesn;t work simply because a drug company can not trademark bee pollen. They will find the ingredient and then alter it and sell it to you for much more though! I thought eoisinophils rather than basophils were more active in allergies though.

Thanks Mulder, that is great to know it is working effective.

Funnebone, I agree, the drug companies will try to suppress this news first and then take over and produce it at exorbitant prices.

I had been struggling with my sinuses and allergies for years. I have been on every medication known to man. The only product that has worked for me is Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen Capsules. Although I initially starred taking them to lose weight, the first I noticed was that my sinuses and allergies cleared up almost immediately. If you have tried everything possible and nothing has worked, give this product a try. I promise you - you won't be disappointed.
