How to cook Beef Mechado

Beef Mechado is a Filipino dish, sometimes spelled mitsado or metsado in Tagalog language. It is the equivalent of Beef Stew in America. Mechado is one of the favorite dishes among Filipino families as part of weekly menu or on occasion and gatherings. Aside from beef, other meat like pork and chicken can be substituted for it.

Ingredients:

1 kilo of beef, cubed
2 onions, chopped
3 tomatoes, chopped
1 can of tomato sauce
1 bay leaf
4 potatoes, quartered
1 tbsp soy sauce
½ cup of water
salt

Cooking Directions:

  • Cut the beef into 1 inch cube.
  • In a casserole, combine the beef, bay leaf, chopped onions and tomatoes, soy sauce, tomato sauce, and water.
  • Boil until beef is tender.
  • Put in the potatoes. Wait till the potatoes are cooked.
  • Add salt to taste.
