Fermented alcoholic beverages like beer and wine are made by adding yeast to a certain substance that contain sugar. Yeast start the fermentation process, which converts the sugar into ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide gas.
Kinds of Fermented Beverages :
a. Beer - are made from barley malt and flavored with hops. To get the malt, brewers soak the barley in water let it sprout. Then the barley will be dried and the sprout will be remove, leaving only the starch, or malt. The malt is ground and mixed with water to form a mash (soft mixture of cooked grain or bran).Then it is added to another mash, a preparation of cereal grain such as maize or rice that has been crushed and heated. This procedure converts the starch into sugar. Dried flower from the hop plants are added for flavor, and then the mash is fermented.
Brewers age beer for several weeks to develop its taste.
Beer contain from 2% to 6% alcohol. Beer vary in color, some are golden brown and some are dark brown.
b. Wine - are mostly made from grapes, but nowadays any fruits in season like pineapple, mango etc., is also being made into wine. Wine makers crushed the fruit and then ferment the juice. Wine is aged for 4 years or longer. Most wine has an alcohol content of 8% to 20%. Wine may be red or white or rose (pink). It can also be sweet or dry(unsweet). It can be served chilled or at room temperature.

a. Cider - made from apples.
b. Sake - a Japanese drink made from rice
