Becoming a Landlord

I'm preparing to become a landlord and thought I would share the information that I have learned from friends and online resources that I have come across.i have personally found that learning what to do when you are a landlord is a very time consuming and often confusing task. I've got a couple of friends who do this which has helped and also have found a couple of decent online resources but it's still very difficult to know what to do in every situation. Some people say that you only learn by doing but what if doing things wrong results in the loss of a large amount of money? Some things just have to be learnt properly before doing them and this is one of them!

From what I've read and heard from people, the rental price of a property is the most fundamental aspect to letting it. Price it too high and no-one will obviously want to become a tenant and price it too low and you may be stuck with a tenant from whom you aren't making any money to make it worth the time you are spending on taking care of the property and the tenants. I found this property letting article quite useful on this subject and another useful article is this one which mentions that "you will need to seek permission from your mortgage lender to let your property - if you do not have a buy-to-let mortgage". Having a house which is decorated and which has future proof features such as LED lights around the home will increase your chances.

That's the first in my series of articles based around becoming a landlord. Hope you check out my future ones!
