It is believed that over 21 million Americans have diabetes occurring according to the CDC.

Some ethnic groups of people are more susceptible to type 2 diabetes than others. These groups include Asian-Americans, Hispanics and African-Americans. This is particularly interesting considering that most of these groups come from countries that are known to have a low incidences of type 2 diabetes. Many experts have gathered that this change occurs because of the North American diet negatively impacts these groups of people more than other ethnic groups.


Beginning Signs of Diabetes

Diabetes starts with fatigue and may not initially have any other symptoms.

However, the most common other symptoms include thirst and needing to use the bathroom more often. Other common symptoms can include dehydration, weakness, penile or vaginal yeast infections, weight loss, blurred vision, or even confusion.

Long Term Signs of Diabetes

Long-term problems of diabetes include blindness, problems with feet, legs, and toes.

In addition, there is greater risk of kidney failure, heart attacks, strokes and certain types of cancers. In fact, diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure. Other major complications can include higher risk of nerve diseases erectile dysfunction and circulation problems in the legs.

Professional Diagnosis

Doctors diagnose diabetes by checking to see if the symptoms are present and also that the blood glucose level is 200 mg per deciliter or to put clues close level is 126 mg per deciliter or higher after an eight hour fast.
