So What Are The Benefits Of Quitting Smoking?

You know you shouldn't smoke, but what exactly are the benefits of quitting smoking?

Rather than quit because you feel guilty about what you're doing to your body and your wallet, why not quit because of the good it's going to do you and those around you?

Let's list a few of the great things that are going to happen to you, if you quit smoking right now.

  • You'll reduce your risk of stroke. After 5 years of not smoking, your risk of stroke will be essentially the same as that of a non-smoker.
  • Your chances of getting various cancers of the throat and mouth will decrease. In five years, they will be half that of a smoker's.

  • After just one year of quitting, your risk of coronary heart disease is cut by half, and is close to that of someone who's never smoked.

  • Your chances of getting chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is reduced.

  • Your chances of getting lung cancer is reduced. After 10 years, it drops almost to half that of a smoker.

  • Ulcers are less likely.

  • Your risk of bladder cancer is halved in only a few years of quitting.

  • Peripheral artery disease (the same thing that happens to your heart, happens in the rest of your body) is reduced.

  • Your chances of getting cervical cancer is reduced only a few years after quitting.

  • Your chances of having a low birthweight baby drops to normal if you don't smoke during pregnancy.

These are great reasons to quit right now!

Sure, a lot of this stuff happens in the future, but your bright future is never going to arrive unless you quit.

Now that you're thinking about quitting, you might want to think about a program to help you quit. One of the reasons I've set up this hubpage is to collect all of the information that I've learned about quitting in one place so others can use it.

One thing you might want to check out is my own book about quitting. It's called The Harold Cole Method, and is named after my father who invented this revolutionary system. You can learn more about it by clicking here.

Whatever you do, please quit! You owe it to yourself and those who love you.

My boyfriend has decided to quit smoking... Not becuase of his health. But for two reasons, (1) expensive habit and (2) the smell. I can't stand the smell on his clothes. His 'Mom' made a comment about the smell on the sheets and his clothes, even asked him to shower more, which upset him. After smoking for like 4 or 5 years or so, he's decided to quit because of the smell. Ha.

Whitney! Thanks for the comment. Take a look at my website www.theharoldcolemethod.com. If I can help in any way, contact me. Your boyfriend might not be worried about his health right now, but in ten years or so he will be, if he doesn't quit.

Another benefit is it saves you a pile of money. I use to be connected with an outfit that had a product that co-workers used and it was cheaper to use it than the cost of cigarretes.

I quit 7.5 years ago and I tell people the best thing to come of it is the freedom! I love not having to worry about .....when am I going to get to smoke, what if I can't smoke at the place where I'm going, what if I can't get out to smoke for 5 hours, what if, what if.........

Freedom is great. I still like the smell of a cigarette, but never think about going back. I'm done with it and I smoked for 28 years.
