Benefits of Having Children Over 30
61When I was coming along, some extended family members just chose to wait until later in life to have children. Reasons ranged from getting a degree and becoming financially stable to just wanted to stop partying by age 29. In my experience and that of my peers, there is more wisdom at age 33 than at 22. Chances of finding a compatible and emotionally stable mate are stronger. Buying a house in a decent neighborhood is more likely as is having a career with growth opportunities. People in their twenties are more likely to live paycheck-to-paycheck and go to a family member to help out with living expenses. Financial patterns are more likely to be developed by age 30. This is helpful because children come with surprises that are most likely to involve money.

I know what you mean. There are some exceptions but those are few and far between.
JSwindell, thanks.
roddma, it's funny that you said that. I was 32 when my (very planned for) daughter was born. Her father and I had adopted one son and then I had her brother at 29. It was all pretty "standard". She's grown now, and one day was laughing about how "all" her friends were together, talking about how they were "accidents" for their young parents. My daughter said she was the only one who said she was not an "accident" and/or the reason her parents got married. :)
I don't know if she was embarrassed by my age when she was younger (I like to delude myself into thinking I looked younger than I was); but she was feeling a little proud of having the "distinction" of being the only planned child to already-married parents. I was one of the minor, but kind of nice, parent moments for me. :)

I think older parents are blessings rather than curses as society makes them out to be. I was a child of an t older parent born when mymother was over 30. I used to be embarrased but now I wouldnt trade my life for some of the lives of kids these days. They grow up without fathers and raised by other family members. Now thats embarassing.
