If you live in a condo in a major metropolitan area, you might be surprised to find that it is difficult to meet and connect with your neighbors. This is especially true if you live in one of the larger buildings in a big city with hundreds of units.

There is a new website that out there that helps to address this issue by providing a way for you to connect with your neighbors in a specific building. The site is Beneigbor.com and is currently focused on two metro areas in the Pacific Northwest of the US. Specifically the site is focused on Seattle Washington and Portland Oregon.

The site has most of the large developments covered and is gaining a following of people who are either living in these buildings, who have bought a unit in a building that is being built or are just thinking about moving. The site lets you register and become a neighbor at any number of buildings. You can then make comments and connect with other members who are also neighbors of the same building. The site provides a way for people to communicate, meet, plan events, and stay informed about happenings in the neighborhood.

The primary form of communication right now is a simple comment system that is available for each building community. The comments seem to cover everything from prices to the best eateries in the neighborhood. There are also rants about poor floor plan designs and bad architecture. It seems that pretty much anything goes.

What is really unique about the site is the ability to collect buildings that you might be interested in moving into at some point. This way you can get a feelling of the overall vibe of the building and perhaps meet some people before you decide to take the leap.

The site is free to join and has a very simple registration process. You can register and start contributing in less than 5 minutes. If you live in either of these two areas, you can easily find your building, or if it's not there you can add it to the site and be the first neighbor. You can also invite friends and neighbors to join you.

Welcome back, Hedgeek! What an interesting concept. Even in the relatively small coop where I live, we often talk about how hard it can be to get to know your neighbors.

Thanks Guru-C, it's good to finally be back and take a break from all that coding. I've been working on this project for about 5 months now and it feels good to have it wrapping up. Who knows, maybe the concept will take off and we will be covering the Miami metro area (fingers crossed)

Neighborology (http://neighborology.com) is another website that launched recently that offers many of the same features and more. Personally, I think they do a much better job of bringing people together as they enable you to connect at the micro-community (e.g. condo, subdivision) level but also at the macro-community (e.g. region) level.

Hi Fred, thanks for stopping by. I've checked out Neighborology and while they do have few more features than beneighbor.com, they also have adopted a walled garden approach (you are forced to become a member to check out a community for example). I'm sure you'll agree that the open approach of beneighbor.com is more neighborly :) You can checkout the whole site and then decide to join if you like it.
