Looking for an extra Bernina foot or two? Bernina feet are readily available for both new and old machines. Bernina's sewing machines have always been sold with a good collection of feet - but the things are small, and so can walk (sorry!). Fortunately finding a replacement Bernina foot isn't difficult - and the best place to look is often online.

Any Bernina sewing machine from the 1970's on came with a set of feet which are easily interchangeable without having to use a screwdriver, or in fact without removing your work if you were careful! There are a few tricks to watch out for to make sure that your new Bernina foot will fit your existing sewing machine. There have been a number of feet numbering changes over the year and these continue to evolve. However the good news is that it is easy to buy both original Bernina feet and reproduction feet - which work just fine to. The question is what type of foot is right for your Bernina

The old style (sometimes abbreviated O/S or OS) are feet which are designed to work with the following older Bernina sewing machines: 1000 series 1000, 1001, 1004, 1005, 1006, 1008, 1010, 1011, 1015, 1020, 1030, 1031, 1080, 1090, 1120, 1130, 1230, 1260, 1530, 1630 900 series 900, 910, 930, 931, 932, 940, 950 800 series 800, 801, 802, 803, 807, 808, 809, 810, 811, 817, 818, 819, 830, 831, 832, 840, 841, 842, 850 700 series 700, 707, 708, 709, 717, 718, 719, 730 (not Artista 730), 731, 732, 740, 741, 742, 744 600 series 600, 610, 640 (not Artista 640), 642, 644 500 series 530, 532, 534 and 540

That's right you can buy new feet for you 30 year old Bernina 830!

This is basically machines made in the from the late 1990's on. The Bernina machine number range is style 100 to 190. Don't be fooled that the machine's foot looks basically the same for both old and new. The difference is the connection between the foot and the shank on the sewing machine. Presser feet are interchangeable between models but NOT between old and new style. As with all Bernina products you will notice that they hold their value well and that there is little difference in price between the old and the new machines!

Its possible that the brand new 8-Series new Bernina 830 and others will need different feet again.

Another option available for all Bernina machine models is to buy a so-called "adapter foot". The adapter is a one time cost which allows you to then use generic "snap-on" feet from other manufacturers - which are generally a lot cheaper than a genuine Foot. Again ensure that you buy an adapter foot which will fit your exact machine's model number.
