Anime - The Unstoppable Craze

With the rapidly growing cultural impact and acceptance, anime and manga have become an unstoppable craze, not only in the Japan and the United States. Widely spanning every country and with millions of fans residing all around the world and naming themselves 'Otaku'; Japanese anime has swiftly become one of the premiere forms of animated entertainment throughout the world.

The word 'Otaku' is taken from the Japanese language and is used to describe anyone with an obsessive fandom in a particular hobby or interest. The term has become individually attributed to all of those who love anime and really, all forms of Japanese animation and culture. The word has become not only internationally recognized but attributed to fanboys and fangirls of anime, world wide.

Possible the most intriguing aspect that anime has to offer is its unique style of art. Anime artists are found using a mix of painted backgrounds and drawn characters. Anime Magazines often will bring a foreign medley of artistic fashions into a singular collective of media. With outlandish plot devices and artistic sequences with a fast-paced animation style, anime brings fresh and fun styles to western animation.

Artistic Edge

Dating back as far back as the 1930's, Japanese animation has developed uncountably through the years. Starting as short films and black and white movies, Anime's artistic style swiftly took on a popular edge. After seeing the success of Disney's animated films in the 1960's Japanese animation took a turn to adapting itself to more modern animation techniques. By the 1970's a surging growth in animation swept over Japan and by the 1980's the animation industry was booming. As of the year 2000 anime had forged a definitive place in the world's animation industry.

Having inspired new waves of media and art and reinvented plenty of old ones. Japanese anime has redefined the way the world looks at animation and perceives the cultural impact of what would have once been considered 'cartoons'. Anime has established animation as an art form.

Having only grown in world popularity, anime in the modern day is an internationally recognized industry and genre with dedicated internet followings and rabid communities full of fans all proudly calling themselves 'Otaku'. Each year hundreds and thousands of anime conventions are held and attract droves of fans eager to share their passion.

The Highest Level Of Fandom

The most devoted and obsessed fans of Manga Anime usually refer to themselves as 'Otaku', a loanword from the Japanese language which is used to describe a level of fandom and interest that is taken to an extreme. Affectionately embracing the title, fans eagerly take to the term 'Otaku' with pride and dedication.

There really is no question anymore that anime is here to stay. From a simple background in basic black and white animation to the pinnacle of animation technology and cultural significance there is no denying that Anime have made their mark. For those loyal fans proudly calling themselves Otaku there is nothing greater than Manga Okatu and sharp artistic styles of incredible animation.

My alltime favorite anime has to be Akira and although I don't watch anime as much as I used to, I still catch one or two every month. Great read Garrett, it brings back memories.

Awesome! Do you know any good Steampunk Anime's or Mangas? I actually prefer Manga over Anime, I like to read a lot more than I like to sit and watch TV.

I would say Laputa:Castle in the Sky, Howl's Moving Castle, and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Wait, would Nausicaä count as a steampunk? Blood Omen I guess is semi-steampunk and there's also a short story in "Memories" that's semi-steampunk as well. I would say those are my favorite steampunk animes from the top of my head. As far as Manga goes, they were not really my favorite and that's probably odd because most anime fans like Manga as well.
