By KCC Big Country

Christmas light displays are abundant around Texas from neighborhoods that create their own magical wonderland to huge commercial displays with millions of lights set to music. Small town Texas comes alive during Christmas.

I've researched the web trying to find all the best displays around Texas. I've provided links so that you can learn more about each one.  If you know of any I should add, just drop me an email and I'll be more than happy to add them.

Load up the kids and head to one near you. Many of them open in November and run through New Year's eve.

Austin's 37th Street

For more than 20 years, Austin's 37th Street has been transformed into one of the most spectacular displays of Christmas lights in the state. Neighbors string strand after strand from trees to rooftops covering everything in sight. They’ve even been known to decorate their pets and themselves in twinkling lights.

The creativity of this neighborhood has been featured on “Good Morning America”, in magazines, and newspapers.

Due to the popularity of this event, it is advised that you park your vehicle blocks away and walk. Traffic is often blocked off and directed by Austin police due to the number of pedestrians and motorists trying to view the displays.

Location: From I-35, exit at 38th Street and go west. Once you reach Speedway Street, you may want to start looking for a parking space. Cedar Street is the first left after Speedway and you may be able to find parking near there.

Burnet, Texas has Mainstreet Bethlehem which is amazing. It is a complete re-enactment of Bethlehem complete with buildings, soldiers, animals, rope and leather-making, bread-making (which tastes amazing) and more. It is a must-see for anyone in the Hill Country area.

AS my children have grown and left home I make less of Christmas and try to see it for what it really is but the twinkle of lights is something I would never give up for Christmas. It's the magic you never tire of with or without a tree.
