The Best Comedy Web Series Entertainment

If your looking to sit back, relax, and watch something original, unique, and very funny indeed, then you could certainly do worse that to take a look at these comedy web series. There are loads of web series out there on the net these days, a fair percentage of them with an emphasis on original humor the likes of which you might not see elsewhere, and a good number of them are better quality than you might think. I think it makes a nice change from the tried and tested TV shows that everyone knows or the completely amatuer clips from websites like YouTube at the other end, and by watching them you are also helping to give a boost up to the aspiring producers, actors and comedians who are making this stuff and putting it out there for you to watch for free - which has got to be a good thing.

As I said there are quite a few out there, so I can't claim to have watched them all and produced a comprehensive roundup. But I have watched a few, and read other peoples comments on them to get a more rounded and balanced perspective, and here is my selection of what I think are some of the best comedy webisodes around.

Duck N Cover

This is definitely one 'for the lads', although the humor should appeal to other people as well as just young man. Basically it follows the exploits of two manchildren and is almost like a kind of coming of age comedy that you often see in the movies, only with characters that should really have come of age a long time ago. Working as police officers, or at least trying to, they make their way around trying to fight crime and failing to behave properly.

Bleed

I guess you would call this 'action comedy', or maybe 'superhero action comedy' or something like that. The creators of this fairly new series describe it themselves as Buffy The Vampire Slayer's love child, which gives you a pretty good idea of the basic premise, but there is more humor in this than there was in Buffy. The series follows a disillusioned video store cashier who meets a new girlfriend with super human powers. There is a slideshow of pictures for Bleed just above the text, thanks to Ben Snyder for emailing them to me.

Global Warming

Global warming has probably the most impressive cast that I have ever seen on a web series, which really does wonders for this character driven romantic comedy series. Saturday Night Live's Kristin Wiig plays Kristine, a woman who wants more out of her men, but hasn't quite figured out exactly what that is. The Daily Show's Aasif Mandvi is Aseem, a hopeless romantic and Kristine’s tech-support guy in India. The Office's Mindy Kaling plays his tyrannical boss, from whom he escapes to find a new life with Kristine, both of them taking a giant leap of faith without really knowing what the are getting themselves into. Duck N Cover was one for the lads, and this is definitely one for the girls.
