What are the best ways to lose fat fast?

1. Quit bad habits

This is the best time to quit smoking. Though some people have experienced gaining weight while on smoking cessation, quitting smoking is an effective way to clean your body and mind.

Quitting smoking is a hard work and can be very uncomfortable for many. Starting a new diet at the same time you quit smoking can be a hell of experience. It would be better if you will manage nicotine withdrawal first in few months. Once you're comfortable enough with a smoke-free status, then that's the time when you can focus on shedding your extra weight.

Many ex-smokers experienced an urge to eat more while they are trying to quit. Why? In part, it has something to do with the need to replace for the act of smoking.  Now that they wanted to throw away their cigars, food is becoming their new addiction. It is also a fact that food tastes better without cigarette tar clogging on the taste buds.

So how can you quit smoking without gaining more weight? Just choose the right kinds of food. Green and leafy vegetables and fruits can be addictive too, less the guilt.

Quit drinking alcohol. Too much of beer and alcohol leads to beer pot or beer-belly. Many alcohols (beer) also have a high number of calories. Alcohol has 7 calories per gram (slightly below fat which has 9 calories per gram).  A moderate alcohol drinking should only come in one to two drinks. If it well be more than that, alcohol can interfere with the body's ability to burn fat. Most of us know that too much of an alcohol can adversely affect the performance of the liver. The liver is the primary organ responsible for metabolizing fat.

Alcohol is also a strong agent for diuretic. It makes the water in your body be flushed faster than normal, which goes completely against the advice of drinking lots of water.

2. Create a food journal

List down the food that you usually crave for. These are the foods that you think you can't leave without eating in a day. Then distinguish whether that food contains fat or sugar. If it does, swear them off.

Include on your list the following food items:

Sodas.  They are high in calories. If you usually take 2 cans of sodas everyday, cut back at first and drink water instead.

Avoid oily, grilled and meat cooked in lots of spices.  It might taste a little blunt if you are going to eat boiled meat but you will get used to it eventually, and probably enjoy it more.

Junk food. They are junk, remember? So why do you always want to munch those potato chips coated in deep artificial flavoring? The best way to get rid of them is not to buy them in the grocery. Keep your home “junk-food free” so you won't be tempted to indulge.

Cookies, candies, etc. Limit you intake of these "trigger foods"- the ones that you cannot eat just one of.

Foods that are readily available- instant noodles, canned drinks, etc. You are not sure what they are made of so just better avoid them.

Fast food items- they are heavily laden with cheese, starch and artificial flavorings.  Plus they were stripped-off with nutrients because of the way they were cooked and served. They are heavily soaked in oil, butter and margarine- all contains harmful fats.  If you have a plan of going out, head off to a restaurant rather than fast foods. Restaurants have more dishes to choose from and you can even request for the way you want some foods to be cooked. Going to nice restaurant at least thrice a month can serve as your reward for doing everything to get slim.

3. Exercise

The key to an effective exercise is variety. Try something new -- maybe Pilates, yoga, dancing. Having fun and trying new things will keep you interested and enhance your commitment to exercise. The gym is not the only place to exercise.  Do something unique and preferably something that involves a long-term commitment and contract, such as swing, swimming lessons, fencing, or martial arts. Choose a school or instructor you like--you're more likely to show up, especially if there's someone holding you accountable. You can join your local mountaineering club and trek the mountain nearby on weekends.

Another key: starting your day with activity is one of the best ways to make sure it does not get squeezed out of your schedule. So try to jog before breakfast. It can help you to be physically prepared and be mentally alert the whole day.

Instead of driving, why not walk to the store or library? Whenever your destination is close enough half a mile one way is enough, especially if you are going to push or carry groceries) drive only if you are planning to go more than a mile one way or when the weather isn't good.  Try to use the stairs instead of elevators at least thrice in a week. Take the chance of walking while you go to your office room.

For serious workout, the proper combination of resistance and cardio training is a must. Run tree kilometers 3 times a week. Do interval training, alternating running, biking and hiking. Go strong and hard for two minutes, then take it easy for one minute. Then go hard again for another two minutes. Do this cycle for approximately 20 to 30 minutes three times a week. It will definitely make you look good- with beefed muscles and more defined curves.
