#1 on Best Games for Xbox 360

Gears of War - #1 on Best Games for Xbox 360

Coming in number ONE on The Best Games for XBOX 360 is Gears of War. The baddest tactical shooter available on any platform, the main focus of the game is the wicked cover system incorporated flawlessly with the game’s intense atmosphere. In a post-apocalyptic world overrun by an unknown force called locust, it tells the classic sci-fi tale of a hero and his good buddy, of their journey of saving the planet.

The single player campaign tells the story of the main character Marcus Phoenix and his buddy Dominic Santiago. The game begins with Marcus in a prison locked away accused of being a traitor, but he’s busted out of the prison by Dom to help fight the Locust (the bad guys). There’s a short tutorial as Marcus is freed and from that point on the game focuses more on the shooting than the story telling. It does just enough storytelling to keep you engaged but not too much to bog down the intense feel of the game.

Gameplay, Visuals, & Conclusion

The fight sequence mainly revolves around its awesome cover system, the name of the game is to duck, pop, and shoot. You can run and gun for the most part if you are playing in easy mode, but the game does get progressively more difficult and you’ll have to be more strategical towards the end. You’ll have three soldiers in your squad (not including Marcus) in large chunks of the game but you better not depend on your AI controlled squad members to do the killings for you. Basically, they’ll keep the enemy busy and you will finish them off.

Released in 2006, the game still looks visually stunning. The details of the rundown cities are awesome and you never get tired of watching objects getting pulverized by gun fires. The most memorable weapon in the game is the Lancer Assault Rifle with its Chainsaw Bayonet. If you thought charging your enemy with a standard bayonet was gruesome, be prepared to watch what this Chainsaw can do to the Locusts’ guts.

The game is even better in co-op mode, you can play co-op via split screen mode or over XBOX Live. You can also play team-based multiplayer mode for up to 8 players and it adds a lot to the game’s replay value.

This is the game that upped the ante for all gaming franchises. After Gears of War, gamers were not easily impressed. Gears of War sold over 3 million copies in just ten weeks of its release and 5 million copies by 2008. After finishing the solo campaign your feel like you just came out of an action movie, it delivers everything the next generation console games were suppose to offer gamers. For that, it lands the #1 spot on the Best Games for XBOX 360.

Grand Theft Auto IV #2 Best Games for Xbox 360

Grand Theft Auto IV - #2 on Best Games for Xbox 360

I know what you are saying, “How does GTA 4 rank behind Gears of War on the best games for Xbox 360?” Yes, there are millions of loyal Grand Theft Auto fans out there who’d choke me to death had they had my neck within their reach. Choosing between GTA 4 and GOW for the #1 spot was more like flipping a coin for me, you can’t lose with either one.

GTA IV is by far the best among the Grand Theft Auto games, the enhancements made in this game in terms of visuals and gameplay can’t be compared to the previous series. The open world and non-linear story line allows you to play the game in almost any way you’d like. The main character is an illegal immigrant named Niko Bellic, he’s one those bad guys you root for, really hard to dislike. Although you’ll be busy shooting, killing, and bombing throughout the game, Niko’s violence has a purpose as he’s looking to avenge for something I will not reveal here.

Gameplay, Visuals, & Conclusion

GTA IV’s Liberty City is breathtaking to look at and that’s true especially at night. The details of the city are truly remarkable and it shows you the kind of passion that went into producing this game by the developers. Have your character just stand in the middle of a busy street and just look around, the population surrounding him look real and alive. That’s the beauty of open world games and it’s especially true for GTA IV where it’s easy for you to just immerse yourself into the city and into the game.

The story of the game can unfold differently depending on some of the decisions you make throughout the game. Sometimes your job might be to kidnap someone and kill them, but the kidnapped might beg for his or her life and that’s where you come in. If you kill them you’ve done your job, but if you feel generous and let them go, that could have its own consequence with your employer. The addition of decision making gives you more control on how to play the game and it adds to the replay value as you’ll surely be curious of the alternate outcome.

The new game uses a cover system which makes the gun fight a bit more tactical, but you can still play run and gun style as it’s just as fun. The side missions are a plenty, you can be stealing cars, causing havoc, street races, hanging with friends, going on dates, and so much more that you can easily spend 30 hours on side missions alone. The story mode can take 30 to 40 hours to finish and add that to the Xbox Live multiplayer mode which has more than a dozen different modes allowing up to 16 players to take part, you can be playing this game for a long time. That’s a good thing because you’ll enjoy every minute of it.

If you are unfamiliar with the GTA franchise, just think of this game as allowing you to live in a virtual world inside the skin of a badass. To give you an idea of how realistic the world of GTA is, Liberty City has multiple television stations that really broadcast programs within the game. Turn on the TV and you can find a comedy channel with stand-up performance from some big names and many other channels with genuinely fun programs. It would take too long to describe everything this game has to offer, it’s that good. As a result of a coin-flip, Grand Theft Auto gets the nod for number 2 spot on the best games for Xbox 360.

Halo 3 - #3 on Best Games for Xbox 360

Number 3 on the Best Games for Xbox 360 is none other than Halo 3. Halo 3 gives the conclusion for the series of event that span a trilogy of Halo games. A Sci-Fi shooter that offers engaging storyline with stunning visuals, it’s tough to rank Halo 3 on number 3 on the Best Games for Xbox 360.

Halo 3 has the right mix of shooting, melee, explosive, and light tactical approach to it that makes the game thoroughly enjoyable. It has a wide range of weapons you can destroy things with, from flamethrowers to deadly melee weapons such as Gravity Hammers, fast firing automatic pistols, the crazy destructive Spartan Laser, and too many to list them all.

Halo 3 also has some great vehicles you can commandeer, the two-man ATV, Ghost (alien hover attack vehicle), Prawler armed with a plasma gun, some aerial vehicles for air to air or air to ground combat, and much more. The multiplayer mode is one of the best among all Xbox games as proven by its one billionth online matches by March 2009. Having grossed over US$300 million in its first week, perhaps it deserves a better spot on the Best Games for Xbox 360.

Halo 3 stands out among plethora of shooters that being, visual, audio, gameplay, and storytelling. If you have played the first two games of the Trilogy, getting the third should be a no-brainer. If you are just getting familiarized with the Halo franchise, enjoy all three games of the franchise. So Halo 3, the number 3 on the Best Games for Xbox 360.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion #4 Best Games for Xbox 360

Earning the #4 spot on the Best Games for Xbox 360 is “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion”. The Elder Scrolls series have been responsible for many firings in the past, as the sheer depth and magnitude of these games would turn the hardest working men and women into game zombies. This list is for the Best Games for Xbox 360, but for addictiveness alone TES4 would take the cake and eat it too.

You get to create your own character in TESO and go on to a quest that can take 40 to 50 hours to finish. The game does a great job at introducing the vast elements of the game in small chunks so it doesn’t overwhelm you. This is important because the number of side quests, weapons, armors, items, exploration, buying houses, investing in your favorite shop, joining guilds, and even customizing your character, the things you can do with this game seems limitless. I’ve only described a snipped of what this game is all about and I’m thinking maybe this game deserves a better spot on the Best Games for Xbox 360 chart.

This is an open-ended game which allows you to play the game in any way you want, but you can choose to just follow the main quest only. The A.I. characters you meet and interact along the way are so real that you actually care about what happens to them. You can play in first or third person’s perspective and the battle are live, it’s not the tedious turn based fighting. At your arsenal are, magic, swords, blunt weapons, bows, and too many to list them all.

Maybe you always dreamt of fighting as a gladiator or perhaps master the art of Black Magic. Whatever your fantasy The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion seems to be able to make it come true, with such a rich environment and a vast land to explore, the possibilities are endless. Well deserving of its #4 spot on the Best Games for Xbox 360 is The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Call of duty,

If you mean COD deserves one of the top 5 spots, I disagree. But I'll definitely add at least one game out of the series on top 10. Thanks for the suggestion.
