BEST SUSHI RESTAURANTS IN DOWNTOWN SAN DIEGO
Located in downtown San Diego, the historic Gaslamp Quarter is teaming with great sushi restaurants. These are the best sushi restaurants in downtown San Diego:
Taka Sushi is by far one of the best sushi restaurants in San Diego, and definitely my favorite. They serve all the popular sushi rolls as well has hot entrees like chicken teriyaki, salmon and steak. They also have some killer salads like the Alaskan King Crab Salad and Fried Calamari Salad. I highly recommend checking this place out!
Nobu is a world famous Japanese sushi restaurant. Nobu launched it's San Diego location in November 2007 in the lobby of the Hard Rock Hotel in downtown San Diego. Nobu is a very trendy sushi bar, so dress to impress when dining here. Nobu can get quite crowded, so I recommend making reservations well in advance. You can actually make reservations on their website. Nobu is not open for lunch.
Did you know..... Robert DeNiro is a partner in the Nobu franchise!
RA Sushi is the perfect sushi bar to hang out with friends. RA Sushi has an upbeat atmosphere and booming music. This is a hip place to grab some sushi and drinks with friends. Some of their signature sushi dishes include the Beef Tataki Roll, King Crab Roll, and the Crazy Monkey Roll. I also recommend any of their signature drinks, especially the Tsunami Punch which is a blend of cold sake, liqueurs, and tropical juices served in a fish bowl! This drink is meant for two, so make sure you're with someone who doesn't mind sharing.

BEST SUSHI RESTAURANTS IN PACIFIC BEACH
There are a lot of great sushi restaurants in the beautiful Pacific Beach area, but for the best sushi I recommend Mister Sushi, Wasabi Sushi and Sushi Ota.
Mister Sushi is one of the best family-oriented sushi bar in Pacific Beach due to its very relaxed atmosphere. Some of their best sushi rolls are the Rainbow Roll, Futomaki Roll, Philadelphia Roll and of course the all too familiar California Roll. For a great appetizer, try the Scallop Dynamite!
Wasabi Sushi is located at 2662 Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach. This sushi restaurant has a 17-seat sushi bar and recently renovated dining room. They even have an outdoor patio area. Their signature roll is the Wasabi Special Roll which has lobster, avocado, and shrimp tempura and topped with albacore, masago, green onion and ponzu sauce. So yummi! Unfortunately I was unable to find a website for Wasabi Sushi. But their phone number is (858) 272-2275 and their hours are Mon-Sat from 11:30 am - 10:00 pm and Sundays from 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
Sushi Ota, named after chef Yukito Ota, is located at 4529 Mission Bay Drive in Pacific Beach. This is not a fancy sushi restaurant. It's actually tucked away behind a strip mall, but don't let it's humble appearance stear you away from this local gem. The food is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend their soft-shell crab rolls! This is a very comfortable sushi restaurant to dine in. It's great for families, friends and even to eat alone. The dining area is small, so I would also recommend making reservations. I was also unable to find a website for Sushi Ota. But you can give them a call at (858) 270-5670. Their hours are Monday, Saturday and Sunday from 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm; and Tuesday and Friday from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, and 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
SAN DIEGO'S BEST SUSHI BUFFET RESTAURANT
This is one of the most amazing dining experiences! Todai is a Japanese sushi and seafood buffet located at 2828 Camino Del Rio South in San Diego. Imagine buffets full of every different kind of sushi imaginable as well as hot dishes like chicken teriyaki, fried rice, yakisoba, baked salmon, sukiyaki, lobster tail, udon, calamari, gyoza, fried blue crab, BBQ beef short ribs, and shrimp and vegetable tempura. Wow! What a list. It is absolutely amazing. And the food is very good and very fresh. Their sushi rolls include California, Philadelphia, Caterpillar, Dragon Roll Z, Spicy Tuna, Grilled Salmon Roll, and many, many more. Their prices per person range from $16.95 to $27.95 depending on the time of day and day of the week you go. They are also open 365 days a year! This is a great way to introduce friends and family to sushi, since they'd be able to see and taste all the different varieties.
BEST SUSHI RESTAURANTS IN NORTH COUNTY SAN DIEGO
Katsu is my favorite place for sushi in the North County area. Katsu is conveniently located in "Restaurant Row" on San Marcos Blvd., right off the 78 Freeway. Katsu has been around since the 1980's and has won many awards for best sushi bar. They also have one of the best teppan/hibachi grills around! (If you're not familiar with this, this is where you sit in front of a grill and the chef cooks your meals in front of you, entertaining you as he goes.) I've even actually met a few celebrities at Katsu: Tony Hawk and Richard Dreyfus are regular customers. The wait staff are also very friendly and efficient. I always get good service when dining here. One of my favorites here is the soft-shell crab hand roll. Give it a try!
