Best Movie To see In 2009
66
There are so many massive movies coming out in 2009, and with most of next years Oscar worthy pictures either still being made, or being kept low key till later, its kinda hard to pick one. However, the one movie that I can't wait to come out is Watchmen. Based on the graphic novel of the same name from the 1980's, and directed by Zack Snyder, same man who brought us 300. Remember that? Amazing looking, true to the story it came from, no not the historical one, and super entertaining.
The story takes place in a slightly alternate universe during the 1980's when the worlds super heroes are being picked off, apparently at random. Frankly, you need to read the novel, its very good. Don't view this as a comic book, because its not, there is not happy go lucky stuff, its not a bunch of smaller stories to lead into a larger storyline every so often to keep people interested. It is an amazing story of super heroes and how they would most likely be forced to exist in the real world. I could say no giant crystal palaces, but thanks to one of the characters, with his billions, he happens to live in Antarctica. No, not many details... its too good to really do anything and risk ruining the story.
From the trailers, which screened with The Dark Knight in IMAX, to the screenshots and featurettes about the making of the movie, there is no doubt it will be an amazing movie. If you have read the novel, I'll bring a little hope to the one dark piece of information. They have changed the ending. Thankfully, Zack Snyder went out and got Alan Moore to rewrite it. So while the ending is different, it has been written and approved by the very man who did the entire story and original ending, which will help maintain quality and continuity.
Sure there is Terminator Salvation, the pushed back Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, a G.I. Joe adaptation, the sequel to Transformers, and who knows what else. While many of those will entertain me, and I just might be thoroughly impressed and blown away by them, I can't see any beating the overall quality that Watchmen is going to bring to the screen. Not to mention its going to be in IMAX and could literally blow me away.
While many of the people cast are not big stars, they are all good, talented people, and I'm sure they will pull this off, just as the many unknowns in 300 did. Some of the note worthy are Billy Crudup, Malin Akerman, Patrick Wilson, Carla Gugino, Jeffery Dean Morgan, and Jackie Earle Haley as the bizarre Rorschach. Just have to put your faith in Snyder for this list of to come together and be as good as they should, could and have to be.

As much as I like Watchmen I will respectfully disagree. When The Road comes out this year (fingers crossed) it'll be the high-water mark of the movie year.
