No Place Like Home

Perhaps it's a sign of the times (or a sign I'm getting old). But, for me the best place to celebrate New Years Eve is at home.

I really love the idea of staying home and investing those poorly spent 100's of dollars that I'd spend out to dinner and celebrating in a crowd of people that (a) I don't know and (b) will most likely never see again, on something more practical - like a vacation (laughing).

Now I suppose if you're going to go out with a bunch of friends, or you're going to spend the evening at a closed party where everyone knows everyone that's ok, but for me, home is where I'd prefer to be.

I have only ever gone out on New Years Eve about 3 times. One of the times it cost me $300 to spend the night with a couple that I didn't particularly like, eating a meal I didn't particularly care for and drinking too much. Another time I wound up at a First Night Celebration where I froze my rear end off, was surrounded by thousands of people I didn't know (and will probably never know). And the last time was a combination of both.

Nope, for me, give me my nice comfortable sofa, my drink of choice (which is cheaper at the package store than at the bar), and my choice of snacks and my big screen TV to watch the ball drop (if I'm awake that is) and I'm a happy camper!
