Finding presents for men is an issue that usually only comes up a few times a year, but some people act as though it is a major challenge. Honestly, finding the perfect present for a guy doesn't have to be all that difficult.

The first thing to realize is that if you leave yourself enough lead time, you can find, order and receive almost anything by way of the Internet today. This means that even if the man you are buying for is really into just about anything, you can find some related item that he doesn't have. Using the Internet really opens up gift buying doors if the man you are buying for has any type of collection that he is particularly proud to have built. With sites like eBay available, even the most obscure collectible can be purchased and in your hands within a week or so. Smaller sites that specialize in the men's gifts niche also abound. Does he collect vintage cowboy hats? No problem, but try finding those within easy driving distance!

Gifts for Men - Gadgets

Usually with younger to middle aged guys, cool gadgets are a pretty safe bet.  There is something almost magical about electrical "widgets" that make some type of job easier.  Even if it takes a week to learn how to operate properly, most guys will enjoy the challenge.  Before you buy gadgets though, you should try to ascertain whether or not it is something that relates to some area of interest for the man your are buying for in that particular situation.  If you know that your Dad hates talking on the telephone and he has no interest in what the latest scoop is on the Internet, he probably won't necessarily be enamored of the latestiphone or Blackberry.  But if he enjoys tinkering in the garage, a whole world of options is still open to you!

Mens Gifts You Might Want to Avoid

Objects that can be put to use are usually appreciated by guys.  Most men are not big in to collecting "knick knacks" and such.  If you see something and think that it would be "precious", don't even pick it up unless you are absolutely sure your man is the exception to the rule of usefulness in gift giving.

It has become a cliche' to give men gifts related to work or basic hygiene.  Even if a man has somehow grown to love the feel of a silk noose around his neck or the painful splatter of aftershave, it is often just a reminder of the daily grind and his enthusiasm level might be less than spectacular upon receiving such a gift.  If you have gotten to the point of giving these standards on more than one special event per year, it really might be time to shake things up a bit and start to get really creative.

Cool Presents for Men

Creative gifts are not that difficult to come up with really.  If you have a bit of money to spend, take a look at what the man or men in your life enjoy doing and then get them a related gift that they would never treat themselves to on their own.  If your husband, boyfriend or father enjoys camping, how about setting them up with a weekend camping expedition that is fully paid for and already organized?  Be careful on planning a time however as this could backfire on you if the man in question has a fluctuating schedule that could interfere with such a gift.

Another idea is to really go over the top and set them up with some type of "dream" gift.  No, there aren't any dancers involved!  What I'm talking about would be for a really special celebration like a major birthday.  If your guy is into something like major league baseball, how about searching out a fantasy baseball camp featuring real major league players?  This idea can also be extended to helping him deal with any issues of regret he may have about not getting things done when he was younger.  If you have heard him pine away about how he should have done something when he was younger, how about helping him to do it now?

Although his main activity at this point in his life may be reading a book or watching sports on television, if you set him up to meet one of his old goals, you may be surprised at how it can rejuvenate him.  Here are a few ideas off of the top of my head that someone may have wanted to try buy never did...

  • Skydiving
  • Learning to play an instrument (someone can buy the instrument and someone else can buy six months of lessons)
  • Learning a skill like fixing cars or building things.
  • Owning some special type of pet.
  • Tracking down old friends for a get together.

Presents for Men Who Have Everything

There are some guys who are more sentimental than others and this can also be taken into account when planning for a special gift.  Although it is often seen as only the domain of women, some men are very attached to their families and see them as the most important part of their lives.  You could try to arrange for some type of special celebration beyond the typical singing of happy birthday, see you next year routine.  Bringing the family together in a special place can put a whole new twist on the typical reunion.  There are plenty of places that offer special packages for groups or for people planning special celebrations.  I used to work for a river boat company that specialized in charters such as this for very reasonable prices.  You need to think outside of the box and look for something that will be fun but not totally uncomfortable for the man in your life.

The ideas that have been presented are not from any type of magic formula.  These are simply generated by trying to use your imagination and refusing to accept the mundane boring standard gifts and presents for men that so many people get into the habit of buying.  Just because the local department store says that golf shirts are on sale for Father's Day does not mean that Dad will love it.  Sure, he'll appreciate it and show thanks because he loves his family, but with just a little bit of imagination, you could do so much better picking out presents for men.

  • BCS presents Texas vs. Alabama ... like it or notCBS Sports3 hours ago

It takes a second. Just one second for Texas to kick its way into the BCS title game with a 13-12 win over Nebraska and for Gary Parrish's heart to break. Bye, TCU, Boise and Cincy. We'll never know what could have been.

As my friends will tell you, I am not the world's biggest fan of seafood, and it would appear that I am just about alone in that particular taste. Or lack of taste, depending on how you look at it. Now, that does not mean I don't realize the fault is not in the seafood, but in me, so I don't expect anyone to share that particular taste. Which is how I felt about the Evansville Philharmonic ...

Great article! I really like how you put in skydiving as a gift! Sometimes even grown-ups like to have fun too I guess.
