Best Price on Windows 7 as low as $9.99

If you buy Windows Vista after June 26, the can still get the Windows 7 upgrade for $9.99!
It's a special offer by Microsoft called the Windows Vista Upgrade Option. You won't see this offer advertised much, it seems to be a bit of a secret actually. My guess is that it's legally advisable for M$ to offer a special offer for a reasonable amount of time to customers who purchase an operating system that is now no longer the latest software. Of course MS won't make much money on $9.99. Luckily you now know this fact as well. You can get Vista, order your Windows 7 upgrade, and either install it right away, or wait a few months and then install it and all the inevitable patches as well.

Here's the secret. First buy copy of Vista (Again I recommend Amazon, but it's good no matter where you purchase), the offer is valid on items obtained between June 26, 2009 and January 31, 2010.

Here are Microsofts terms...

  • This offer is only for customers who purchased eligible software at retail.
  • Not valid for original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or volume license customers. Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Starter Edition, and all editions of Windows XP as well as ROEM SKUs, COEM SKUs, Academic SKUs and volume license SKUs are not eligible for the Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program.
  • Offer valid in participating countries only.
  • All orders must be accompanied by proof of purchase in order to be processed.
  • Select the appropriate product(s) on the Windows 7 Upgrade Option Store to complete the order.
  • Customers limited to one Windows 7 boxed product for every one corresponding qualifying Windows Vista boxed product purchase.
  • Offer applies only to initial purchase or acquisition of Windows Vista Product.

Not Sure Whether to Buy Vista Or Windows 7 - Get Both

Maybe you are not one of those early adopters.  Vista has been around for a while, and you'd rather go with something proven.  Yet you are curious about Windows 7 and don't want to miss out.  Get both.  Buy Vista from Amazon after June 26 and you can buy the Windows 7 upgrade for only $9.99.

Actually I have been using Vista for about 2 years, and I look forward to an upgrade.  I have a fairly high powered laptop and it halts quite a bit.  Albeit it does'nt completely crash, it will halt for about 2-3 minutes and then recover.  I guess that's still a marked improvement over XP.

Vista Ultimate get screwed on Windows 7 Upgrade

I don't know what M$ was thinking when they were pricing Windows 7, Microsoft is offering discounts on Windows 7 upgrades to some, but not all, Vista users. U.S. customers who pre-order a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium will pay just $49.99, and those who select the Professional version pay $99.99.

But there’s no similar deal for Windows 7 Ultimate customers, the logical upgrade for Vista Ultimate users, who’ll have to shell out $219.99 for the top-of-the-line version of Windows 7.

Personally, I own Vista Professional, but it's not fair to loyal customers who purchased Vista Ultimate.

Amazon Prime has saved me a lot of $$$

Amazon is simply one of the best places on the Internet to shop. What a lot of folks don’t know about though is amazon prime. It has saved me a ton of money.

Amazon prime costs $79.00 a year, once you join – you get free 2-day delivery on all your Amazon items. Now amazon also has a good number of third party members on their site that may or may not participate in prime. In my experience I have never had to pay for shipping on an item yet.

Personally I don’t understand how they make money of this deal. Last year I bought a Squat Rack and a 300 lbs weight set. The shipping alone on these items was over $175 (for regular shipping), but I bought it using prime and guess what? I paid $0.00 for shipping. Later last year I also purchased a recumbent bicycle, shipping was $40.00, I paid $0.00.

On top of this, you can upgrade to next day delivery for only $3.99. I could have had all the items for my Gym sent overnight delievery for $3.99. I did’nt though – I was already feeling like I was getting over.

I do a lot of shopping on Amazon, I find it very hard to find better prices anywhere else, I am certain I probably could, but it would take me a couple of hours of researching on the Internet and looking at several stores, and I would probably end up saving a dollar or two. Much like walmart, I can buy at amazon and be pretty sure its about the lowest price I’ll find, on top of that I avoid sales tax, and now I don’t pay shipping.

I love movies, so I pre-order them on Amazon. New releases come out on Tuesday, I normally get them on my doorstep on Thursday and watch them Friday or Saturday night. Occasionally I get an email from them telling me the price dropped the day after they shipped the movie out to me and credit the difference to me automatically – how great is that?

Amazon is applying the same pre-order price guarantee to Windows 7. So pre-order it as soon as you can, and if the price decreases anytime after you pre-order it and they ship it – you get the lowest price.
