73If you don know what to buy or where to fit all your stompboxes, i'm gonna tell you some tips on how to. I have been playing the guitar for a couple of years now and have studied how to create a pedalboard that is cheat to setup but has the most efficient parts that you should buy here are some configuration

------For Lead Guitarists-----
You are gonna need a Distortion, Chorus , Delay, wah pedal, volume pedal & a compressor, that is the most basic effects that you are going to need to play those great solos. I recommend a Boss DS-1 for distortion because it is probably the best sounding distortion in the market, Try listening to John Petrucci and you will hear what a DS-1 sounds like, also check out the new DS-2, as soon as i saw its demo on youtube i imidiately ordered one for my pedalboard.
------For rythm Guitar-----
I recommend you use this combination of Stompboxes
****Overdrive/Distortion (overdrive & distortion in one)
****Volume Pedal (you need to turn the volume down when the solo kicks in)
****Chorus/flanger/phaser (when you use clean tone, you might aswell ad effects) try FX600 by behringer, it has chorus, flanger, phaser, delay, tremolo & pitch shifter all in one stompbox
****Acoustic simulator (just incase you need to sound like an acoustic guitar)
****Reverb & echo (i prefer spring reverb, gives you spring like echo you will love)
-----Bass Guitar-----
I only played the bass for side projects only when the real bass guitarist is singing or when he is too late to come to the studio to record with us hahaha :-) just kidding its just when he is really sick. I this is the pedalboard setup that i used for my bass guitar.
****Compressor (to cut off the clicks and prolongs the sustain)
****Equalizer (Tweak the guitar's sound to the timbre you want to hear)
****Limiter (to prevent the bass from becoming too loud when you pluck harder)
****Bass Overdrive (Used to make the bass sound crunchy or fuzzy)
the compressor & limiter are the two most important part of my bass pedalboard. while the compressor cleans the sound & prolongs the sustain of my bass, the limiter prevents the bass from creating too loud sounds when i get really exited when playing,(i really pluck hard when i get exited) The combination of these two stompboxes will create a clean, volume flat bass sound
-----If You Like Complete Sounds-----
Show bands ussualy are the ones who likes to complete the sound on their pedalboards but some still likes to play with so many stompboxes. Composers also like to experiment but a complete set may cost you thousands of dollars on stompboxes, This time i suggest you to use digital effects and put them in your pedalboard. Digital effects processor can immitate the sounds of all the analog stompboxes can do but do not exactly perform like an analog.
Look at the setup for Lead Guitarist and add these other digital effects
***any multi effects processor (I recommend zoom G2 'without the built in pedal)make sure you choose the one that allows a expression pedal to be plugged in
***expression pedal or CV pedal (to be able to control some modulations on the effects processor)
The reason that you would not want a built in expression pedal is because built in expression pedals is not always as good as separate pedals. Little quality standards are put into built in ones unlike the separate pedals are made with high quality standards.
