It has undoubtedly become important to establish the credit history for future so why not start early than later. Credit cards give an extra edge in creating a good credit history, as long as one ensures timely payment of outstanding amount every month. Fortunately the credit card companies have started issuing special credit cards only for college students thereon also helping the students to develop the skills to manage their own cards successfully. Selecting a good credit card is bit tricky as there are quite a few credit card companies in the market to select from. They all hold different features and diverse services. To make this task of selecting a credit card can be made a lot easier by considering the following points to find the best credit card company to go ahead with.

1- Check on the credit limit the card company is offering. It’s crucial to be aware of what your credit limit is so you don’t have to pay a fee for crossing your dedicated card limit. The card limit should not be too low to spend on nothing, neither too high a credit limit which may get you into piling debts with high rate of interest.
2- Look for a card company which has a low annual fee or even doesn’t levy any annual fee for accepting their credit card. Card issuing banks and companies charge the merchants with a small fee when you use the card which in turn gives the income to the card issuing bank or company.
3- It’s always beneficial to find a card with rate of interest as low as possible, just in case of any contingency you are not able to pay off the outstanding amount on the card in any particular month.

4- Make sure the card you select is accepted worldwide, For example Visa and Master cards are almost accepted everywhere in the world where as Discover and American Express are accepted in few preferred locations in comparison to the former .So Visa and Master cards are any time a better option to go ahead with.
5- Ensure that the company you choose has a setup of automatic online payment, it’s an excellent alternative for students being busy with their college activities who cannot visit the branch every month for payments. Opt for an online monthly statement to make it easier to track the activities on your card.
6- Also do a check on the incentives that credit card companies’ are willing to offer. Incentives vary from giving the cash back deals to redeemable reward points for free travel, gifts and many other kinds of benefits.
7- To get a best credit card deals always compare different cards before choosing the final card. You can visit www.cardratings.com and www.moneyexpert.com for detailed comparison of the features and services of the different credit card issuing bank/companies.
8- Ensure that you read and understand all the terms and conditions of the card in black and white. Credit terms such as Finance charges, grace period for payments, any applicable tax, percentage rates and any other hidden fee or charges.

Consider the above points to have a best student credit card. It is easy to track the card companies which issue student specific credit cards. These companies advertise and promote their cards with special promotional offers. The credit card can be asked for by filling up the application form with all your details supported by some requested documents like your proof of being a student - it may be a copy of your college/ student id card, copy of a fee receipt, or a signed declaration confirming you as the student of any particular college or a tuition.
certainly do make sure to shop with your new credit card keeping in mind the limited credit period you have to pay off your monthly outstanding, so as to avoid yourself by falling into the trap of unpaid credit card outstanding balances which may call for a vicious cycle of piling high rate of interest on late payment, other multiple charges and so on. Key is to have the right choice.
The Senate on 2oth May 2009 voted in favor of the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure (CARD) Act of 2009.Major part of the senate CARD act are that a cardholder should be 60 days behind for the credit card company to increase the rate of interest, the cardholder should be informed 45 days before the rate increase, card companies cannot charge the consumer with any late fee when there is delay in processing of payment by the former, offered promotional rates should stay for a minimum period of six months, and the same cannot be increased before 12 months. The CARD points are more or less similar to the Credit Card Holder Act 2009.
