Best Suburb Alternative for Atlanta Transplants

Finding the right suburb to put down permanent roots is probably the toughest decision to make for families moving or being relocated to Atlanta. I’ve seen numerous message board and blog postings on this topic from families trying to get some insight into the Atlanta scene. For those with an unlimited budget, the options are endless and a suburb might not be necessary as they can find options anywhere within the city. For the purposes of this post I’d like to focus on the best option available outside of the perimeter (I-285) in metro Atlanta.

We’ll assume for the purposes of this article that the family in question desires to be relatively close to city center and would like to keep their commute time to less than one hour and desires quality public schools. These two requirements don’t necessarily eliminate any communities. It does however focus our attention on some of the northern parts of metro Atlanta- namely Eastern Cobb County and Northern Fulton County.

Without a doubt, East Cobb and North Fulton have become the most popular landing spots for families relocating to the Atlanta area. These spots offer everything most families are looking for which are good schools, healthy environment and positive family friendly community. We’re not breaking any news here by announcing the arrival of East Cobb and North Fulton!

But what is the best city or area within these counties to put down roots? The answer is the city of Roswell west of GA400 in the Roswell HS District. Simply put, Roswell has a great vibe and tremendous history to the city. Some of the buildings in historic Roswell pre-date Atlanta and date back to the early 1800’s. There is a nice contrast between the history, quaint shops and restaurants of old Roswell and the new development along Roswell Road and Woodstock/92. Roswell separates itself from the subdivision feel of East Cobb and the cookie cutter vibe of Alpharetta and Johns Creek. There is also a great variety with the homes in Roswell as well from the older homes to the new developments.
