Tats

Tats which is short for “Tattoos” have quickly become apart of mainstream fashion. Tattoos are popular all over the world. People get tats on any and every part of their bodies. Upper arm tattoos, full back tattoos, lower back tattoos, shoulder tattoos, leg tattoos and even tattoos in places I would rather not mention. You name it someone will tat it. There are girl tattoos, boy tattoos, “in memory of” tattoos black and white tattoos and full color tattoos.  But there are quite a few things that you might want to consider before getting a "tat".

Things to consider before getting a tat

Tattoos are permanent.  So before you run to the tattoo parlor and get that tat you may want to ask yourself 6 very importatnt questions.

  • Why do I want a tattoo?
  • Who do I want to see my tattoo?
  • Where do I want my tattoo?
  • What design do I want for my tattoo?
  • How much do I want to spend for my tattoo?
  • When do I want to get my tattoo?

Why do I want a tat?

People get tattoos for many different reasons. Some people get them to commemorate lost friends or loved ones. Some get them because to cover up blemishes on their skin. Some get them just because it’s the thing to do. You must figure out your reason for getting a tattoo. Tattoos aren’t easily removed, so you must make sure it’s something you want to do. Some require more thought than others. Regardless of how much time you need to think, just be sure it’s the right decision for you. Remember, YOU are the one that had to live with that tattoo for the rest of your life.

Who do I want to see my tat?

You may not think this is an important question, but it is. If you are getting a tattoo on a body part that is normally covered up then there is not too much to think about. In this case you are getting it for only a select few people will see it. If you are getting a tattoo on your arm, leg or neck then you may want to put a little thought into it.

Let me explain.

Many young adults get tattoos with no regard for their future. Even though tattoos are common in today’s society, they’re still not accepted by all. So, if you are going to law school and while in school you get a tattoo of you and your boyfriend’s name on your neck, just know that you will be in the courtroom representing your clients with a turtleneck on ALL YEAR ROUND.

My point is, in the professional world tattoos are still not as accepted as they are on the streets. Keep in mind that even though the tattoo is for you, your audience will also see it if you have it in a place to be seen.

Where do I want my tat?

After you have figured out who I want to see my tattoo, you need to figure out where you want to have your tattoo placed on your body. There are so many body parts to choose from. Your arms, (upper and lower) legs, chest, back, neck, ankles… There are so many body parts. Be creative. This tattoo will represent who you are. It can be your own masterpiece or it can be something already formed. But wherever you place this tattoo on your body remember it’s there for life. I can’t stress that enough. The last thing you want is to look at yourself in the mirror ten years from now and regret getting a tattoo on that specific part of your body…

How much should I spend on my tat?

Tattoos can be very expensive. They can range form under $100 for a small tattoo on your ankle or arm to several thousand dollars for larger tattoos. The larger more expensive tattoos are usually ones that cover a large area of your body. Your back is the largest area on your body. If you want to get a tattoo that covers your back, you are looking to spend thousands of dollars and countless hours. Also the more detail you want including color and complexity will also have an effect on how much you spend on your tattoo. You also want to do your research. Just because one tattoo parlor is cheaper than another for the same tattoo doesn’t necessarily mean you are saving anything. The more reputable tattoo parlors will charge mare than the one that just opened up down the street. I know everyone has to start somewhere, but again this is something that will be visible for a long time. So don’t be frugal. Do your research and make wise decisions.

When should I get my tat?

This question may seem like another irrelevant question but it’s quite valid.  Here’s why…  The tattoo procedure is sort of complicated to explain so I will try my best to put it in simple terms.  The tattoo machine that the artist uses, drives needles into the outer layers of the skin at about 120 times per second.  Once that out layer of the skin is open, the ink fills in the open skin.  The most important process is the healing.  As the skin heals, it seals the ink under the outer layer of skin.  For those of us that have tattoos, you know how the instructions to take care of your tattoo while it is healing are the most important.  If you tattoo is not taken care of correctly as it is healing, you will lose the ink in your tattoo.  Your tattoo will also need air to heal.  Now there is no right or wrong season to get a tattoo, but you may not want to have your tattoo exposed during the healing process when it’s cold out and the germs from the flu are in the air.  A infected tattoo can turn into a ruined tattoo.

Also, if you are getting a large tattoo that may take more than one visit to the tattoo parlor, then you want to keep in mind that you will need to have available time for your tattoo to be finished.  A large detailed tattoo can take several months or even years to finish.

What tat should I get?

The sky is the limit. Tattoos are definitely something you want to do your homework on. I suggest you know exactly what you want when you go to the tattoo parlor. There is a website where you can choose from thousands of designs from dozens of different categories. You can even create your own design. Once you have found or created your design on this website, you can print out your design and take it to your local tattoo parlor and have applied. It doesn’t get any easier than this. Click here to access the “Tattoo Fever” and get started with choosing the design that fits you.
