Fossil fuels are hydrocarbons found within the top layer of the Earth's crust. Although they are known to be essential, the unavoidable consequence of these minerals is that they are limited and will run out eventually. The prices of oil and gas are beginning to rise uncontrollably. Because of this, the government and the general population are beginning to look for alternatives that are cheaper, yet as useful as fossil fuels. Solar and Wind power have been used up for centuries already. They are useful for individual properties in the right environment. But these have been greatly ignored by the utility companies and government because they relied much to elements that now, are unreliable. This article will dig deep into the issues on wind energy and solar power.

Solar power converts sunlight into electricity, either by photovoltaic cells and concentrating solar thermal devices, or by one of several experimental technologies such as thermoelectric converters or solar chimneys. Wind energy, on the other hand, derives energy from the air that is converted to mechanical energy, in the shape of turbines that can be used to directly or to generate electricity. Basically, Solar and wind power are quite simple in how they work. Solar power and wind energy are very practical in rural areas like underdeveloped countries and farms

There are some disadvantages for solar and wind power: Both solar and wind power rely on certain types of elements, most especially in solar technology. Wind power can be quite noisy because of the spinning of turbine blades. When the turbines are big, some people might think it ruins the landscape because of the noise that it causes. A lot of turbines are needed for wind power, and reflectors for solar power, to make enough energy impact for an area. Solar heat and electricity cannot be used at night for solar power, or even when there is no direct sunlight that's why complementary power sources must be used for emergency.

There are quite a few advantages of solar and wind power. One advantage of solar and wind power is that the energy is free after you install it. They do not give off greenhouse gases and are guaranteed pollution-free. The equipment requires minimal maintenance. The land around the wind turbine in wind power is not totally wasted since this can be used for animals to graze or for planting crops. In terms of solar power, little maintenance is needed for the solar panels
